Hello I’m a rock hound who usually tumbles rocks. I have 3 polishers and enjoy making things shiny. I happened upon a Craigslist ad while searching for a hand held polisher and 40 minutes later I was the happy owner of a cabbing machine and a chop (cleaver style?) rock saw; purchased for a pittance. Now I’m learning about the machine and have to get some copper tubing for the saw. If anyone has any advice on the saw please do let me know! For now I’m polishing thunder eggs on the machine. Thanks to the hosts for maintaining this forum. There’s a lot of info here!

If you could provide specifics about the saw you have questions about, that would be extremely helpful (make, model, blade size, etc.). Pics would be even better.

Welcome from Michigan....sounds like you have purchased "Drop Saw" as opposed to the "Power" feed type.

Welcome! How do you like the cabbing machine? Im thinking of getting one...any advice? It’s fun. I’m still just fiddling around with the machine. I actually have only used it for thundereggs thus far. But I could see the appeal of making jewelry as I recently put a bail on some pet wood I polished and it looks great.

The saw is a PREFORMER by HOPE “hiring older people enterprises” in riverside California. The cabbing machine has no badge. Looks like the Cabbing machine has 3 Positions for three different wheel types. I really like the water valves on there. Today's saws have Elcheapo Plastic valves.

Yeah these valves hold pretty tight. I’m going to have tons of questions about belts and this diamond wheel really bites, as in digs in. I have scratches on my agates (in the thunderegg) that I just cannot get out. I have diamond pads, diamond wheel (as far as I know it is diamond) and sandpaper and still can’t get them out. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

That looks like a really coarse diamond wheel -- 60 grit or maybe even 30? See if you can see anything written on inside of the wheel that tells you the grit. The only way to get those scratches out will be to grind them off with the next size grit. If it's a 60 grit wheel, then 80 will come next. If you go too high in grit progression, those scratches will take forever to get out.

Thanks for responding. That is one serious wheel, make no mistake. I looked all over but can’t locate a grit size on it. You know you could be right it could be a 30. If that’s the case I might need to hit the rock with a 40 sand paper. I feel like I’m sanding FOREVER.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you're off to a great start.
Looks like an oil pump to me. A piece of tubing would run from the pump to the copper(?) line on top of the saw arm.
