Thanks for the kind words everyone. Finally getting decent results with tumbles but seems that getting good photos is much much harder than I anticipated...

Photos are tough. I almost commented on how good your pictures are. thanks, I must have taken 4 times as many photos than what's posted. Not to mention all the time spent playing with lighting and angles trying to get a good pic. As with everything in this hobby I'm learning as I go and will hopefully get better with each batch.

Photos look great - and the rocks do too. Nice work. Thanks adave. Seemed turning the barrel worked for me in getting the rocks moving correctly up until about 36 hours in polish stage. Then nothing I did helped so just ended there. Read on your thread that you are going to adjust the wooden dowel. Look forward to the results of that.

These are some nice looking, great shaped, rocks that you have produced here. I think they have a great shine. I would guess that you have a lot of experience tumbling.
I like the funny shaped rock in the second picture, at 5 O'clock. I have no idea how long It would have taken to get a polish in the concave recesses of the neck of that piece. Great work.
For mostly self-found, this is a lot to be proud of. There is great variety here. You must live near a very nice source. Lots of Jasper looking ones. Perhaps SoCal region?

This is my third lot o tumbler batch, and credit goes to the Lot o..I was not very successful with all rotary tumbling. The lot o completely eliminated all the impact fractures I regularly got and gentle enough that doesnt seem to have negative effect on any existing flaws. The funny shaped one actually was normal shaped but after weeks in coarse a fracture appeared and after grinding at it with dremel it just kept going and going...I ended up stopping with fracture still there. Was afraid it wouldnt make it through many more weeks in rotary so ran it a week in coarse and dremeled area was pretty much smooth. So put it aside for cpl months. Then got the lot o and threw it in and turned out better than I had expected. Im actually in spring, tx. The self collected material is primarily from San Jacinto river gravel beds, some other creek gravel and some locally common landscaping rocks labeled as simply Bull Rocks. The gravel beds of San Jacinto river surprisingly have a great assortment of rocks. There is member Txrockhunter here that has posted some amazing finds from there. Actually his threads is what turned me onto there. I had a small collection of rocks from there already but mainly small pieces of pet wood and some agate, jaspers. Hadnt considered cutting them until saw his posts. Now spend lot ot time digging through the gravels.

I have an unopened MFRB of San Jacinto's from him that have been on my "to do" list for quite a while now. Thanks for the reminder.

He definitely has eye for finding the good stuff there.

Ah, yes a Dremel. In my mind I was thinking that this was originally a Dremel effort to get the rock to that point. I like all of the rocks a lot, but that one has real appeal! I create a lot of paperweights from rocks, just because I like a large funny shaped rock I guess.
I think it would be cool to create one that looks like the rock I indentified in your picture. I have an idea on how I can create shapes like this, using a special cutting wheel mounted on a wet tile saw.
Thanks for sharing.

Great tumbles! Looks like you have some petrified palm wood in there. I see a few pieces of it in the group shot. Loving that red one too RJ
