What kind of grinder are you using that 80 grit diamond wheel on? I’m new to the hobby and trying to learn as many tips and tricks as I can. They turned out great and love the magnet idea.

Pretty much any water cooled diamond wheel. A flat lap, a vertical wheel or even the side of diamond blade on a tile saw. Even a dremel could be used. Used flat lap grinders can be a cheap tool for cleaning up tumbles. detroit.craigslist.org/okl/tls/d/rochester-inland-swap-top-lapidary/6994487806.htmlMy absolute favorite tool for my tumbles is a Lortone LU6X. It is a combo unit that has a 6" trim saw and an arbor for two 6" x 1.5" wheels. It comes stock with a silcone carbide wheel and an expanding wheel for belts but I took those off and installed 80 grit and a 220 grit hard diamond wheels. This is what the stock machine looks like. No idea why they still ship them with silicone carbide wheels. Hardly anyone would keep that wheel these days. This is another great machine for improving tumbles. The Rockshed sells this new for $440 therockshed.com/equipment4.htmlChuck

Thanks for the info my friend. Those are both really nice machines. Man this hobby gets expensive quick. I’ve watched a few videos and read a few articles where people built their own flat laps. I might give that a go some day if I ever learn where to get the parts and how to wire up a motor.

If you start a project, you can get help here by posting about your project.
