Just refine your stick a bit of foam idea with a more photogenic spacer. Plastic lid . . . hockey puck . . . tennis ball cut off somewhere around the Tropic of Cancer Three barrels, you only need it on one lid, right?

You might consider putting spacers on the rolling rods..........something that can be slipped on/over the rods that is loose enough to take on and off, thick enough to be just high enough to keep the barrels from touching and not effect the wingnuts and soft enough not to gouge the barrels, something like a nylon or hard rubber material.
Over time, anything you stick in between the barrels. that is not attached or placed on a "fixed" surface (rods), will work itself loose and need attention constantly.............just a thought.

Stick some short pieces of rubber tubing/hose over the ends of the lid studs after tightening the wingnuts down.

I immediately saw this as a problem when you first posted a picture of your machine here. Without having one to try out solutions on, I haven't come up with THE correct solution. But, I have a feeling that the person to ask might be TheRock . Bob seems to be just the type to come up with a MacGyver answer and be able to figure out how to make it work. (it might cost $4,000, but I bet it would work!)

Walt (manofglass) has built machines like this as well........his ideas work well and are very budget friendly..........

Well when I first seen the macine I had the same thought. I would just do what Diamond Pacific did on their 40T and 65T they mounted a 3/8 Rod bent with a bearing on top on each end of the tunbler and when the Barrel goes to either end it hits the ball bearing and stops and rolls against the bearing, you could use one rod with a t on top with 2 bearings if you have 2 barrels. Each Barrel needs 2 Bearings 1 on each end. Thanks captbob and rockjunquie for your vote of confidence. I have most all the groceries for a Similar tumbler and that's how I plan to do it!

Stick some short pieces of rubber tubing/hose over the ends of the lid studs after tightening the wingnuts down. Good idea. Or place a small section of tubing that when squeezed together and placed over a couple nuts (1”, 1-1/4” tubing ?) and longer than wing nut sticks out, it would create a cushion from other barrel. While this may be a short term solution, it is quick and easy to remove during cleanouts, or replace...and inexpensive. Home Depot sells clear tubing by the foot. A couple of bucks at most could last a year or more until permanent solution.

What if you mount a divider wheel vertically rather than horizontally? Mounted under the barrels just high enough to where the barrel edge rubs the curve of the wheel but not high enough to hit the wingnuts. If the wheel is wide enough to divide the barrels and low enough so that the barrels don't rub the side of the wheel, it might work pretty slick. The barrels could then both contact the same wheel without fighting which direction they turn it. As long as the barrels contact the wheel at enough of an angle so they do not walk up onto it. The wheels you have in the picture might not be wide enough, and might have too gradual a curve from the side to the edge but it's an idea.
