We need our trees! Sorry you lost some. That was quite a wind.

Late yesterday afternoon we had quite the storm come through. My neighbor sent me this video she took of it coming in:
Here's what happened at my house:
I'm so bummed we lost this tree. On top of being a great sun screen blocking the late afternoon sun coming in the studio, it was also the favorite perch of the Cooper Hawks to eat their meals.
Now I have the task tomorrow of calling and getting quotes from tree services to cut it up and haul it away. Oh my heart goes out to you! I know the loss "could've" been worse, but losing a tree like that is still a heart-wrenching loss, especially when wildlife is reliant on it! So sorry!

The tree guy came over early this morning to give us a quote to get rid of it. $1,800 (their all day fee). Ouch! No rock buying for us for a while.
Hopefully we can offset the fee a bit by selling the wood. Vince estimated there's probably between 3 to 4 cords in there.

With costs being that high, I would have hoped home owner's insurance would have come to the "rescue" at that point! If insurance can't/won't cover the cost, at least there's some money back in firewood...not enough...but a little back.

I was just telling Vince tonight that we need to call to see if our insurance will cover it. All they can say is no, right?

I would almost think it should be...along with the removal of the flattened apple tree (perhaps it's an "applesauce" tree at this point!)...along with the replacement costs of both the shade tree (planted I'm sure for energy savings - as well as wildlife harborage) and the nourishment producing fruit tree (well, it was at one point!). I'm kind of joking around about it, but very seriously, I can't believe both the removal and replacement wouldn't be covered...

I was just telling Vince tonight that we need to call to see if our insurance will cover it. All they can say is no, right? Girl, that's what insurance is for!!! Submit it. Yes, the worst they can do is say no. Looks like the root ball pulled up some sprinkler lines, too. Even if Vince can make the repairs, add them to the claim as well. I've spent so much money on home owner's insurance FOR THE LAST 28 years, never made a single claim. Finally dumped The Hartford, they don't want to do business in California, so they have just been increasing their annual premiums over the years. Got a new policy in April with Oregon Mutual, the premium for similar coverage is less than half. Changed my auto insurance, too, saving money there as well. Should have done it a long time ago.

That sprinkler system is the old one and isn't functional anymore. Luckily, it didn't hurt the sprinkler system that works!

Went to the rice fields along the Santee River to do some crabbing today. Here's a few photos of the pesky gators that stayed around all morning hoping to get something to eat. They looked to be about 5-6 feet long. Nice scenery here but it was ruined when the SC Natural Resources man drove straight to me through the rice field in a track hoe that was fully equipped to move through the water and across that marsh. They were waiting for the tide to drop so it could be loaded on a barge and taken to the area that they were working in.

RickB that does look like a cool place to hang out for the day until it was spoiled by sc natural resource I can just imagine what else is hiding in that rice field big gators and giant snakes just waiting for a tasty treat did you get any blue crabs while you were there or did the day get ruined
