Tried to get photos of all three of the bluebirds together this morning but only captured mom and dad. Past few days I've seen mom, dad and one male youngster (who fledged a few weeks ago) spending a lot of time around the old box. I had cleaned and washed out the box a few days after fledging and now they have returned to build their second nest. Last year they had three clutches.

That was quite the adventure- but you did get a fabulous shot out of it. You've really taken to this photography thing. You take really good pictures of a beautiful part of the country.

Great pictures of those bluebirds, RickB ! I absolutely LOVE the 2nd picture of that male looking P.0.'d. Mad bluebird pics are the best. Years ago I saw the original framed Mad Bluebird picture by Michael L. Smith in a catalog and ordered one for myself, my sisters and my mom and gave it all us on Xmas from Santa. I still have it in my office. It makes me smile every time I see it. This is the picture:

This guy usually gives me "the look" when I go into the back yard. Here's a close-up.

RickB Did you know that a natural rooting compound is willow bark tea? I have used this in the past and it works great. I let pieces of willow branches simmer in water for about 30 minutes. Then either put cuttings of what I wanted to root in a jar with the tea or mixed the tea with sawdust from hardwood trees. I placed the sawdust around the bottom of the cutting and wrapped it in plastic. I have heard that about willow bark. Glad to hear directly from someone who has actually used it to confirm it works well. I normally use napthalene acetic acid, but it degrades over time and I do not do cuttings often enough to make it worthwhile purchasing all the time. I have access to a lot of willow when I make trips to Reno, so will collect some on the next trip.
Another trick is if actually using a cutting instead of air layering first is to make longitudinal cuts in the bark from the end up a few inches. Then loosen up the edges of the bark along the cuts and slide toothpicks in to the slits to keep the edges of the cut bark separate a little. Then pack with the rooting hormone and put in soil and keep moist. Just did that with some apricot trees. They were a couple inches in diameter and about 12 ' tall, but had to be cut away from where they were as they were up against a path being built. So I took the cut down trees back in December and brought them home and did this. Wanted to make sure they grew a lot of roots before they started budding out as a lack of roots and too much leaf can stress and kill a plant. And being as large as the cuttings were that was a lot of growth to feed. So far they are hanging in there. Have them in pots right now to help shade them some until I get more root growth then will move them in to the ground later this fall.

Beautiful lilacs Beth fernwood Do you freeze any of the asparagus? When we get a super deal at the store (which is rare now days) wife will blanch them and then put them in ice water bath. Then dry off and freeze on baking sheet before vacuum sealing in meal size portions. We're able to take a pack or two with us and have fresh asparagus when we go camping.

Yes, I steam asparagus and vacuum seal. A nice treat in Winter.

Hummer juice is on the stove as I type, Patty. I've been having to fill them about every 2 days.
