A few photos for your viewing pleasure. Sunset 9/12/22 Cloud bridge. Photo taken from my front yard over neighbor's house. Cactus in my front yard. These blooms do not open pink, more of a cream color with pinkish petal tips. Back yard. San Pedro cactus flower, close up. You'll have to take my word for how fragrant these blooms are! They are swarming with bees in the evening, overnight, and in the morning. The flowers close up after the sun comes up and it starts to warm up. More San Pedros. Have about 75 feet of these growing along the back property line. More San Pedros And more. The ones in the left center of this photo regrew after one of the entire plants came down several years ago. When we (sometimes) get a lot of rain, these cacti will suck up way too much water, get heavy and fall over. Sunflower. Bob planted a row of these down the west edge of the garden Cottage cheese clouds. Hmmm, maybe more like brecciated clouds? This Night Blooming Jasmine has been opening every night around 8 pm. The flowers are small, not much to look at. But the fragrance is heavenly! Had one of these outside my bedroom window when I was growing up. Mom never liked it, she said the fragrance was too cloying. It is pretty intense! I have seen the Sphinx moths visiting/pollinating it. A few photos from my Dad's front yard. Pat, do you remember these? Dog vomit slime mold! Another one. A bird's nest fungus, a type of cup fungus. Love these! The fuzzy balls to the right and left are before the "nests" pop open. Some type of parasol-shaped mushroom, don't know what kind. My sister is in the process of changing up the front yard there, has had much organic matter brought in, including mushroom spores, evidently. Actually had some morels come up in several locations. A piece of home-grown red bell pepper. Botryoidal bell pepper innards. What? Thanks for looking!

That one slime mold that is separated in pieces, the yellower one? I think that is the one I stepped on, lol. I do get the slime mold in my yard from time to time, normally just in the (dying, underwatered) grass. Never on bricks!

Rockpickforever, those are some great photos. The succulent flowers are especially nice and I like the slime mold because it is always striking.

Rockpickforever, those are some great photos. The succulent flowers are especially nice and I like the slime mold because it is always striking. Thank you, victor1941 . The flowers remaining on the San Pedro cactus started closing yesterday, and are now starting to shrivel and hang down. The spent flowers will fall off enmasse in the next week or so, another mess to pick up! Believe it or not, the dog vomit slime mold does not have a smell. At least not that I can discern. The ones that really stink are the Stapelias (carrion flower) and the Stinkhorns. I don't believe the Stapelias are native to this area, but the stinkhorns infrequently come up without any encouragement from me! Both the stinkhorns and stapelia emit the smell of rotting flesh to attract flies for pollination. Edit to add - Victor, I misread your reply. You typed "striking," I read "stinky." Doh!

Rockpickerforever, since my olfactory sensors don't work very well the smell of skunk and other putrid odors are not always so bad. At least I can smell them!

Took a photo of this cardinal as he was browsing along the shoreline the other day. Looked a little closer at the photo and saw all these shad flies on the hyacinths. The shad flies are very prolific and before dark their combined forces make an increasingly louder humming noise as they prepare for flight. They look like and are about the size of a mosquito. They have no mouth to eat with as they live a very short life after they immerge from the water, have sex and die. The fish love them. Any light at night will attract the hoard so they are very pesky.

I didn't get a picture. So, you may doubt that it happened, but Saturday I saw 2 big and beautiful bald eagles flying overhead of a neighborhood about half a mile from downtown Va Bch. I've seen them closer to the beach where there are some nesting in a huge park/reserve, but never this close to the urban sprawl. They way the sun was coming in, it illuminated the white of their head and spread tail feathers. It was a beautiful sight. A couple people exclaimed- 'Mericah!!

RickB How are you situated for Ian? Looks like it may come over you or whatever is left of it, which may be a lot. Thanks for asking. We're in Columbia SC. and right now they don't know if it will come in straight through, to the left of us or the right. Will get a lot of rain and 50mph winds, always a possibility of a tornado. Ian should come through Friday/Saturday. We should be ok and stay prepared for these events. One thing is for sure, I'm stocked up with shrimp so we won't starve. I picked up 50 lbs of 10-15 count per pound fresh off the boat Thursday morning and have them in the freezer. Generator ready to go if needed.

So this last weekend my wife got to go to a Theresa Caputo show here in town. She's a huge fan! Both my wife and my stepdaughter got to go to a meet and greet prior to the show and got to meet Theresa. The day before the show, my stepdaughter treated my wife to a manicure... including "Theresa" style fake nails. Well, my wife works at a greenhouse...so long fake nails don't work so well - as she found at this week. They were so thick she couldn't cut or trim them with clippers or scissors. My solution...use the grinding wheels...so she did! LOL Oh...and Theresa actually DID read my wife during the show! It made her year I think! Oh...and my stepdaughter wore one of my wraps. When she met Theresa, Theresa said she loved her necklace! Woot Woot!!
