A few sunset pics from this evening
Madagascar Ocotillo, AKA - Alluadia, in my front yard, leaves green and plumped with water. During dry times, all the leaves fall off. They'll come back with the next rains.
This is a Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus, showing off it's Christmas ornaments. The birds love to eat the seeds out of these.
Some festively colored aloe.
Another, with a smaller Alluadia to the left of it,
Worked on a new knife the past couple of days. Agatized coral from Florida. Handle is southern live oak complete with worm holes. Time to go fillet some fish. Caught 4 keepers this morning (3 sea trout and 1 redfish). Also released a couple fish that were too small to keep (1 sea trout and 1 15" flounder).
Not good. I worked a long shift on Friday. Then volunteered at the Amherst Opera House. Came home to an email from my tenant. He had heard a large crash by the barn. Sent me a photo of a hole in the wall.
The next AM I saw what the damage was. A section of barn corner had collapsed, taking out a fence. I had to do immediate fence repairs in single digit wind chills.
Now, am trying to find someone to do temporary repairs. It will be Spring until real repairs are done. My horse must stay in this pasture over Winter.
The barn from a couple years ago. Horse barn to the left, water tank to the right of that. Electric for tank heater runs from my house. I was standing in house driveway to take this picture.
Section of wall that collapsed.
Wish me luck, as so far I have found no one to do the needed temporary repairs.

I was wondering where you were.
How could that even happen?? I'm so sorry- for you and your horse. Why can't the horse stay on the other side of the barn, though?

Other side of barn has no water access, no shelter, no electric, no fencing. My septic drain field is there. There is a falling down ramp leading to the barn loft as well. Lots of my tenants junk scattered near the barn. Some of the horse barn that I had demolished is also there.
My horse needs to stay in this pasture. I did post a plea for help on a old things Wisconsin FB ppage. Have gotten some recommendations for contractors. Others are just saying they wish me luck in finding someone as they have been trying for a couple of years and have similar condition barns.
Listen to the rock. The rock knows its destiny. It will guide you in fulfilling that.
I love this photo of my barn, house and some of my land. Photo was taken from the East.
The original height of barn was where the current roof ends. That entire upper section of barn was added in the 1930's or 40's. It is a turnbuckle style of support. The turnbuckle system is functioning well. I have not needed to tighten it.
It still has the access ladders nailed to the ceiling. Has the original hay hooks and pully system to move them. Hay bale chutes in 3 places to lower level of barn. A small room with a ladder for access from the loft to the room leading from barn to silo. Access chute from loft to silo. Ladder on main floor of barn leading to loft. Ramp from outside leading to barn. The floor in that area of barn has well supported, 3-4" thick boards. Supports for that floor are a combo of 12" to 16" thick logs or rough sawn lumber. They really knew how to do things right back then.

If you can get the hole patched, maybe this will work - A shotcrete wall is constructed by using a special mix of high-strength concrete, which is sprayed at high velocity on the wall using compressed air, to form a retaining structure, drain, or wall. shotcrete walls provide a permanent and cost-effective solution for retaining wall construction.

Wine caps are set up for the winter. Between the 4 half barrels is about ,100lbs or so of poplar wood chips with a little other stuff mixed in and just over a half bale of fermented wheat straw.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
