A friend finally got a photo of the white buck that has been hanging put near their house. It was enjoying the sun in a city park. He is not a true albino, as eyes are not pink. Wisconsin deer come in many shades of brown, gray and white.

Beautiful! I remember going to the Argonne National Laboratory when I was a teenager to see the herd of white deer they had there.

Things you see when you don't have a gun. Wonder if tastes like an albino. Thinking there is a herd in NE Wis.

That’s awesome. I’ve never heard of or seen a white deer before.

We had a white buck for several years across the road from us. Also a white squirrel. Until the next door idiot killed them both.
Side note killing a white animal in some cultures is bad luck

I always heard them called piebald. My brother in law finally took his elusive piebald down. Has the rack on his wall.

Yup piebald is what my understanding is too. Now iirc in Wisconsin we can shoot them, but not albino. Although I have heard ramblings that contradict that.

adjective (of a horse) having irregular patches of two colors, typically black and white.
noun a piebald horse or other animal.
ORIGIN late 16th cent.: from pie (because of the magpie's black-and-white plumage) + bald (in the obsolete sense ‘streaked with white’).

HA HA silly man I'd never call you that. The next door neighbor seriously was one. White deer are actually pretty common compared to white moose and elk. I wonder how much leucism can ruin genetics though? Probably not much more than inbreeding does (among deer, not people) I would think.

There was a true albino buck with pink eyes around Rice Lake, WI for many years. One summer it was photographed with an arrow through its neck. The buck was tranquilized and the arrow removed. He had become somewhat of an area celebrity.
