I volunteered to be scheduled to work Christmas Day. Have had many conversations with customers about my decision. Many have shared their experiences when scheduled to work Christmas Eve/Day.
There are many who have no choice, but to work. Law Enforcement, Military Members, EMS, Fire Departments, Hospital employees, Care givers in residential settings, Truck drivers. Some retail establishments are also open, such as gas stations, grocery stores, etc. Some are on call for emergencies, such as electricity providers. Volunteers are also often needed at homeless shelters.
My Son in Law is working a 12 hour shift Christmas Day. Said he might stop by and say Hi. Told me to be sure to call 911 if I had any problems.
Sharing the story of a regular customer.
He is an Obstetrician. Received a call one Christmas Eve. that one of his patients had gone into labor and things were progressing quickly. He arrived at the Hospital about an hour before the delivery.
Was getting ready to go home, and another patient arrived. This was a high risk situation. He decided to stay and monitor things. Final result was a premie birth. Mother and baby were fine, but required some additional care.
He had left home at about 7:00 PM Christmas Eve. Made it back home at around 11:00 AM Christmas Day. He felt it was one of the best Christmas's he had. It was his first Christmas deliveries.
Have you ever worked Christmas? If so, please share any memorable experiences you had.

I don't have any great stories, but... I used to work at a nursing home and worked Christmas eve or day. I didn't mind much because there were lots of people around and lots of Christmas spirit.
When I started my current job, we used to be open Christmas day. I was the only full-time person, but I always arranged the schedule so nobody would be stuck working both Christmas eve and Christmas day -- even if that meant I had to come in on my scheduled day off. It was pretty awful to work on Christmas day as sometimes nobody would could in, so you would be there all day long by yourself. Now we are closed on Christmas day.

I used to work across Christmas on shift work for one of the airlines in the data center. I was single at the time and thought it best to give those folks with young family the time off. Of course, they owed me a favor for when I needed it.
