Bookmarked...thanks for thinking of me/us! Hard to resist at that price if they ship to the frozen north (Canada). For me rock hounding and now glass hunts (shopping) are half the fun in this tumbling business. I'm converting two 3lb rotary barrels to glass (for a total of 3) as my UV10 vibe is way to idle and am thinking another 12 lb'er to up the output might be in order....Gahhh!....my OCD tendencies push me beyond common sense.... but as long as it's fun....

The beads above were specific type beads picked from this batch of insane glass. There is a plethora of other WEIRD glass goodies in that offer from Fire Mountain. Some are big pieces. Most of it is Millefiori glass made in China. I have even melted it; some does OK, some is unstable. They appear to have already been tumbled in coarse grind to a point = super easy tumble if you can polish them. I think that tumble stayed in the rotary 1 week 60 grit, and then to the vibe AO 220 for 4 days, AO polish for 18 hours. 2 week tumble...

I would have to put those away when the family visits. They have a bad habit of eating the display centerpieces from the dining table and these look too appetizing.

Decided to order a couple pounds as well. Looks like awesome stuff to tumble.

Has anyone tried slicing them into disks before tumbling?

The bigger pieces are not very well annealed fernwood. Meaning they are a bit unstable as glass goes and may crack from the saw vibration. However these smaller pieces seem stable, a few will break when tumbling. Of course I rolled them at 60 rpm during coarse grind. Certain colors are not as stable. Others are like rock. No matter, they yield a high percent cool tumbles and are quite cheap.

Before tumbling. They appear to be partially tumbled upon receipt. Sized perfect for tumbling except some big pieces. There is a mix. Some very strange glass in these batches. It takes a fine polish if you can master the glass polish challenge. Of course jamesp is going to molest them by melting them at 1475F. "Evil Eyes"

I like them better molested! I am at that age Robin....serial killer glasses and somewhat of a hermit. It was a shame I could not figure out the annealing schedule for these morsels. Only about half of them were stable after fusion. The white glass was not amiable to melting as is often the case. They 'eye' was done by grinding a flat base on each milifiori bead and setting it on end for a collapse. Some of the milifiori was 2.5 inches in diameter go figure. Perhaps the prelude to being stretched to bead diameter. No telling what those oversea dudes were up to. Judging from the colors they melted some obnoxious metals to derive at colors. They are perfectly safe now that they are in glass form.

I've got a few shiny rock lairs around my house. What I'd love to know is how to keep the dust off of them. Magic spells?
