Some non venomous snakes are great for rats, mice and other critters too.... People always complain about having snakes or other predators for that matter around, but then wonder why the critters get out of control I love our gopher and king snakes. The hawks help immensely as well.

fernwood are the rodents still being a bother? Are they leaving your lapidary slabs alone?

Check out the videos on U-Tube put up by Shawn Woods, his channel is called Mousetrap Monday. He has lots of ways to successfully get rid of critters !

fernwood are the rodents still being a bother? Are they leaving your lapidary slabs alone? No sightings for over a week. Critter man was here Wednesday. He found lots of evidence in basement, but nothing in traps. Rats had dug out a hole he had filled in. He found two more new holes where the basement walls meet the floor. He installed some nasty looking, cylinder type traps in each hole. All traps in basement and house received fresh baits. I have heard chewing in walls and running around on heating ducts/roof. Thankfully, no more boxes of slabs have been knocked down from shelves. My cat is being more of a problem now. He keeps jumping on everything he can. He has not knocked any slab boxes down yet.

I caught the rodent in a sticky trap. I am not a rodent expert but guess it is a small rat. Picked up the trap with tongs and put in garbage bag which is outside now and will be relocated to a garbage can 60 yards from my house. I provided opportunities for exit that were not taken. I put down a few more traps increase he has friends.

There is always more. The voles and small field mice will shelter in my shed and garage in the cold weather, when we put down new vapor barrier in the crawl space there was no new evidence, so I pretty much leave them alone for now. When the house is listed this summer we'll have it checked by the critter gitter and do what we need to, but I suspect we'll be dealing mostly with wasps and little ants. We won't use any insecticide due to our bee habitit in the back and the chickadee apartments out front. If the next owner doesn't like the chittering chickadees I guess they'll remove the housing, hope they don't, and I really hope they don't mess with the hummingbird/honey bee/butterfly garden. The rock buckets are popular with some honkin' huge garden spiders, gives my heart a little workout every time they surprise me, but I know they're our friends as well. The rare brown recluse DIES, however.

I store slabs and rough I'm not working on outside at my cabbing location and every so often I do a search and sort and find a lot of black widow spiders. I watch where I put my fingers and they don't bother me and I don't bother them. I didn't have any rodents in the house for decades.
