So one of my sons gave me a vibrating tumbler for Christmas. Hopefully this isn't a dumb question but it's a Frankford quick n ez vibrating case tumbler and in the directions it says not to use it for lapidary, but I think it would work. Am I wrong?

Typically, case/brass tumblers aren't heavy duty enough to withstand rocks. I'm not familiar with your particular tumbler, so I'm simply speaking in general. The material is heavier when compared to a similar volume of brass. You might end up abusing springs and/or the barrel.

Mike, the Frankford arsenal tumbler was the first vibe I tried. It was inexpensive but...loud is an understatement and it is not meant to run wet. The threaded rod that holds the top down is exposed to the grit, rocks, etc. It gets beat up really fast. I gave up and purchased a Lot-O and actually threw the Frankford vibe in the garbage. It may do a few loads for you but don’t expect long term use. And be prepared for a loud tumble! jeff A

Hey Mike, I did not want to ruin the good feeling of having a new vibe tumbler...and especially a gifted one. Sorry about that part. But to be honest, I really don’t think that it would last or that you would be satisfied with it in the long run. On mine, I even tried using a small funnel upside down to try and protect the threaded rod... but rod would come loose, top came off, splattered everywhere, and then dry out...beating the rocks up. My intent was to save the disappointment and loss of funds spent on something you would not be happy with. I wish you the best with whatever you choose! Jeff A

I would rather have something that will work and will last and my son doesn't know a lot about tumbling. I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, but I'm thinking I'll have him return it and maybe I'll pick up the extra to get something else. Thanks!
