Hi. I am new to this site. I have used a rotqry tumbler for a few years and want to start using a vibratory tumbler. I am loking at the Thumlers mini 10 and the Lot O tumbler. I sort of like the Thumlers but it sounds like noise is a real problem. Any advice on how noisy it is? I would be running it in my basement. Also, has anyone had any experience in making an insulated cover to reduce noise. Appreciate any advice.

This video was made for me when I was trying to decide and it was a HUGE help. I decided to go with the UV-10, since the noise levels seemed to be about the same, plus it has a wider opening for larger rocks. With either one in your basement, you should be fine and not hear it. Do note that the Lot-O also has to be mounted to a cinder block, whereas the UV-10 can just sit on a bench top. Once again, many thanks to TheRock for taking the time to make this very helpful video.

Welcome to RTH I have a Lot O Twin (double barrel) and after all the adjusting I had to do to get it in optimum working order I would advise against that model for anyone that doesn't want to get into modifications. I have heard of some having trouble with the polish stage on the single barrel units as well, and having to adjust the "tuning dowel" closer to the frame. Then again, a lot of people use them without modifications and have absolutely no problems and stellar results. On the other hand, I have heard nothing but praise for the Thumler's UV-10 vibe, and hear it works perfect "right out of the box". Whatever you do end up buying, I wish you nothing but joy with your new vibe!

from SW/Michigan I haven't done a Decibel Noise Comparison but I own 5 Vibes 3 Lot"O"s UV-10 and UV-18 You have to figure noise per pound Its not really fair judging the two tumblers Straight Up. The UV-10 is a 10lb Tumbler and The Lot"0" is a 4Lb Tumbler. The UV-10 is 2 1/2 times bigger that's like judging a Toyota Tacoma PU against a Ford F350 with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke Turbodiesel with 350 horsepower. The Bigger tumbler ism going to generate more noise. Goodluck in your choice.

Thanks. VERY helpful. The seller did respond and recommended the Lot O. He said the barrels on the Thumlers wear out after 8 months or so of continuous use. Any problrms with this. I am definitely leaning toward the Thumlers mini.

Welcome- I have a lot-o so I can't speak to your issues. I like my lot-o though and I find it to be quite quiet.

Welcome!
I find my Vibratory (Diamond Pacific Mini-Sonic) to be just about as loud, as 4 of my Lortone Rotary tumblers.
The Lortones are soft sided lot though.
At any rate I think a Vibratory unit should be no problem in a basement as far as noise is concerned.
