I am working out of town this week and found out one of my best friend was murdered today. My friends name was Wilburn King, we went back to the early 70s, we started fighting each other in tournaments, and later formed our own schools in the middle 70s and always supported each other. We fought with each other (we were in the same Black Belt Division) and always had time to have a drink to each other’s wins and losses that day. There was so much camaraderie between our two schools. We watched children grow up and become adults and then later their kids come to class and go into competition. Our two schools always supported each other even in good and bad. Wilburn produced several national champions over the years. Many will remember him as one of the few instructors that would work as hard as the students. And then harder..
He lost his life due to (forgive this cliché) a out of control "Little League Mom" who didn’t think her son was winning enough or getting the instruction he needed..so..acording to the police report she shot him once in the chest with a single barrel shotgun.
My good friend is gone, His wife is a Widow and his daughter is now Fatherless.
A tragic day indeed for the King family, and Martial Arts in North Alabama.
Thank You Dwight Pilkilton , 5th. Dan

Greetings All,
Well damn Dwight, I am quite sorry to hear that your friend was killed. By a distraught woman upset by her son's lack of skills in a karate class? Unreal what can cause someone to go insane enough to commit murder, just unbelievable. What to say to his daughter? I only hope she is old enough to have known her father well. It is very tragic and very upsetting just hearing about it. Please accept my sympathies Dwight.

my prayers will be for the family pdwight, how tragic, I had my 7 year old in baseball this summer and it is not a cliche I was so annoyed with the experience I registered my son in martial arts this september and he has attended several classes how unfortunate the mother did not learn some of the values of self disipline and self control that the child has been taught throughout the years of teaching by your friend Sorry for your loss. Dear Dwight, I am so sorry to hear about your best friend. It is so sickening to hear of such sensless things. I can understand your pain because my brother was murdered last year over what essentially amounted to a few dollars. Our lives will never be the same, but time marches on. Please know that you will always feel the loss, but you will also always have the wonderful memories of him. Janelle

Dwight, nothing can replace the memories of such experience. I am speechless at the waste and the uselesness of such an act. My heart is heavy. I hope he was buried with his Gi right over left, and his Obi was the original emroidered by his Shihani. My prayers shall be open without intent, to drink tea from an empty cup. There is an order to things, I just do not know what it is. Now more than ever. Rev. Dr. John Hosler-donhue Go-Dan
