It's in the low fifties which by itself is too cold to work. My back has been acting up for about a month and the last time I tried to do a few preforms it started to spasm. I made an appointment with physical therapy but that isn't for a few weeks. I had an order for some cabs and saw one of them needed to have the superglue on the back sanded off and decided to also work on a Lucin Variscite for a few minutes to see what would happen with my back. I was concerned that I might have reached the end of the road. I did ok so I think I will be able to work for short periods when it warms up. The cold was a bigger issue than my back. The material is soft and I will work on the shape when things are better. Through 280 soft.

Pretty piece of variscite! Looks like it is going to glow. To quote Bette Davis: "Old age ain't no place for sissies."

I've got 1.25 pound piece of butterfly wing glued to a board. I'll try to slab it tomorrow. Last time I did a lot of slabbing, my back wasn't happy probably because of a lot of cranking on the vise. Today was garbage day and that wasn't fun. I'm hoping to slab tomorrow. Life is a series of physical behavior modifications.

I’d rather grow old than not! Our 97 year old friend used to say growing old wasn’t for wimps.
The variscite is lovely. The other rock will be, too. Thanks.

I feel your pain. Needing to modify how and what can be done.

There is an alternative to getting old.
I want to see more of that butterfly, looks like it has potential!

Just wanted to wish you the best with your back pain. I know all to well what it’s like and everything you have to go through to hopefully get some relief. It’s no fun and really wish you the best my friend. Glad to see that you were able to still enjoy your hobby some.

I just got some documentation regarding my mandatory 401K distribution for 2020. It shows my life expectancy as 22.9 years which would put me at 97-98 so I better take better care of my back.

How often do you see a 98-year-old guy in the obits? Someone’s full of beans. Male life expectancy at age 74 or 75 is another eleven or twelve years.

I think that is when they think the money will run out based on mandatory distribution and no growth. " Your savings will last until you reach age 100" Both parents made it until over 90.

I tried to do a little grinding today at 55 degrees and used hot water. I had 5 preforms to work on the aggressive 80 grit wheel. Completed 3, 1 fractured and my hands started to sting. My back was ok and I will need to still take it easy.

I have had spinal decompression surgery many years ago and my back still tweaks out... I find that stretching and walking help it out... I also pick my projects out that I really want to do for the day, because usually I pay for it, so it better be worth it... Muscle relaxers help a lot, but I kind of stay clear of meds.. Good luck with that back!!

I’ve had lower back issues since hanging drywall basically nonstop from age 14 - 19. Cradle rolls really really help me.

My right arm is currently hurting pretty much all the time. Getting an MRI soon to try to figure out why, they suspect impinged nerves from the neck.

Good luck with that back!! Muscle relaxants don't work for me. Walking is good but I am limited because of neuropathy in my feet. I'm trying to increase my walking. Good posture when sitting and limiting sitting. Cold packs help a lot. I need to start stretching but want to do it right so I am waiting to get instruction from a physical therapist. Right now I can't tie my shoes. I'm going to ask about a back brace to use when cabbing. Limiting activity to keep from getting things irritated is also good.

My back has reached my new normal and I had physical therapy appointment yesterday. It got to 60 degrees yesterday and I was able to grind and dop 5 cabs and felt fine. I wanted to work today but it is cooler. The next three days will be 60+ so I'm taking the day off.
