Math relationships. Getting some accurate rotary numbers from these fast and repetitive tumbles. 7 pounds is about 200 pendants after course shaping. More like 180 in future. Average weight is 16 grams. Range is 12 to 21 grams after coarse shaping. 7 pounds fills a 5"x7" mum pot 6 inches deep. Glass is sawn 5/16"+ to allow for corner rounding and removal of drill hole damage. Load starts at 11 pounds and ends up at 7 pounds after course shaping. Portion of slurry poured off and water added about every 2 days to thin when running SiC 10. SiC 10 grit takes 5 days, SiC 60 takes 9 days, both using clay to coarse shape. Next step is SiC 500 for 10 days to prep for vibe. Or the vibe is used for this step if it is available or if in hurry. SiC 500 removes a surprising amount of material in the first 24 hours. After that it is too fine due to breakdown. Must remove from step 1 to avoid SiC 10 and SiC 500 from getting pendants too thin. After SiC 10, wet.

The glass was sawed to dimensions to allow the tumbler to do the (albeit simple and crudish) shaping Evan. Hopefully this stuff will sell retail for $25-$30 at an up beat juried Atlanta art festival based on the colors, patterns and final polish. Certainly no precision cab work here ! Even at substantially lower prices it is a lot of money per 11 pound tumble. I just need your daughter to man the booth

jamesp at what point in the process do you drill the holes? Welcome to RTH shardy. The holes were drilled after they were sawn before going in the tumbler. They were sawn a bit thick to allow tumbler to remove chips around the hole.

Thank you. And thank you. Mom has requested a wind chime and that info will come in handy.

Strange. These got course shaped for about 12 days in a blend of nasty 10 and 60 grit SiC. rotary They got transferred from course to SiC 500 for 6 days. rotary They got thinner than expected in the SiC 500. Perfect thickness but almost too thin in the 500.
Will be running many more loads of these same size same glass. They will have to be pulled out of the coarse grit earlier than expected because the SiC 500 removed way more meat than expected.
The coarse grit seemed to rounded the edges the most, the 500 seemed to attack the thickness the most go figure.
Because the SiC 500 is so effective at removing material the SiC 220 step would be a waste tumbling this glass on my set up.
