Had a UPS delivery yesterday. Waited all day and nothing arrived. Finally, heard the truck at about 7:30. They dropped the package off on front steps. Did not ring door bell, but my Sierra dog alarm went off.
I brought package inside. Then heard tires spinning. I went on front porch. Saw a large truck repeatedly back up and try to go forward. Driver got out of truck several times. After about 20 minutes, the driver re-positioned the truck so it was further to one side of driveway. I knew this would be trouble, as the truck was now in line with a pile of wood from a tree that had fallen down. Driver now had traction, but hit the wood. Stopped truck and got out.
I am sure that by now the driver was very frustrated. Had I not been in jammies and there was not so much ice on driveway, I would have suggested the driver use the other driveway. Finally, the truck was able to get on HWY. It parked on side f road for about 5 minutes, then left.
I felt bad for the driver, as my stop was probably their final one for the day.

Oops! Have to set out some fruitcake or something for him/her next time That and my long driveway must be why they charge a couple bucks more for residential shipping. Thanks for sharing Beth.

I have a long, steep, windy driveway and under the best conditions a UPS truck can make it to my house. When the road is wet, all but the most skilled can make it. Once the driver stops, it is all over with because he will never be able to regain traction. I was surprised that a larger Fedex truck was able to make a delivery. The driver must be an all star. I worked out an arrangement with UPS to leave the package at the bottom of the driveway under bad conditions and mark the proof of delivery to indicate that. With the exception of my regular mailman, packages get left on the side of my driveway or delivered to the wrong address. I spent $500 having a large sign made on Etsy and installed with may address and an arrow pointing up hill. It hasn't helped that much. A delivery is only as good as the driver.
