Greetings from California.
I've been a rockhound most of my life. Rocks saved my life when I was a kid. I was throwing rocks at the side of the neighbors house when my mom saw me and came running out after me. Little did she know that my ammo for the throwing was in my back pocket. Yes those rocks saved my life. She broke her hand but I'm still around to talk about it.
My interests are in collecting, slabs and cabs. I cut my first stone in 1993 and was hooked. I used to trade my stones to local jewelers for metalwork when I still had a day job. Since then I've been studying metal arts so I have a better way to show of the cabs. I'm very partial to banded agates and included quartz.
I have progressed through collecting to tumbling to cabochons and now art jewelry. I still run a couple of loads through tumblers from time to time. I always go collecting at least a few weeks of the year although that's more at shows and less in the field these days. I'm realizing I have more rock accumulated than I will ever cut or polish in several lifetimes. I'm planning on leading a rockhounding trip in my backyard maybe this summer with downsizing the name of the game. Let me know if you might be interested in a particular date.
Cheers, Sky

Great intro and welcome to the Forum from Southern CA. As you'll soon learn quickly, folks here love to see photos, so please share when you have the chance. When you lead the rockhounding trip in your yard, post up. I might need a vacation near you.

I'm realizing I have more rock accumulated than I will ever cut or polish in several lifetimes. Welcome, to RTH, Sky! What you said right there. Join the club. Oh wait, you are, lol.(Many of us can say the same, have more rocks than you can shake a stick at!) Just saw your avatar. You have a dog! You will fit right in, we all love dogs. What part of California? It's a big state, and there are many of us RTHlings sprinkled liberally throughout. Welcome. Jean In Southern California, south east of San Diego

Welcome from VA. Plenty of us East Coasters are partial to rocks, too. After you've been here awhile, maybe you'll consider our buy and sell section. Flat rate boxes are easy to pack.

Welcome from Northern Arizona! Well actually right at this very moment, Quartzsite, AZ. We all have that same rock accumulation problem. We're adding to ours at the moment.
