Top half is Haida Gwaii/Westcoast agates my friend got for me last summer (70+ lbs worth...should do me a few years), he's getting the small ones on the right as he wants to fill up a small vase...upper middle is 2 amethyst someone discarded in the back alley last spring...bottom right is Aventurine (green is cool but all the fracturing is not so cool) ...bottom middle is local petwood and bottom left is mostly local stuff with a couple Polychrome and Mookaite jasper in there as well. Not in the photo are not so shiny and micro-pitted rejects but good news they are getting fewer in number as I'm (still) figuring out what will tumble and what won't...I keep picking up the same stuff thinking/hoping it will tumble nice because it looks so good in the wild and this time will be different somehow...sigh, I'm a slow learner....but I'm not to worried about it as discovery is half the fun... I collect rock at a large stream 10 miles from home. The Chert found there looks amazing with layers in a glassy stone. It never comes out very good and breaks up frequently. But I still can't resist picking up more of it hoping it will come out better this time.

They would look so awesome if I could just get them to survive the stages before polish, let alone if I could get them to polish. Though I am still determined to conquer them and continue the experimentation in hopes of defeating them one day. You will be a pretty shiny rock....You will be a pretty shiny rock........[cricket, cricket]
