Hey, 'dule, thanks for posting that, just finished watching it. Can't wait for the rest of the season. I think I like the opal hunting shows better than the gold prospecting ones.

Been watching and enjoying. I came very close to heading to OZ to try to mine opal when I was much younger. It was when Andamooka was in its prime, producing some of the most beautiful green/orange opal in existence. I'm glad now I didn't -- the flies, heat, lack of capital and rough frontier life would probably have done me in. I'm happy the series is airing. It will educate consumers about how elusive fine opal is and how difficult it is to mine. Maybe they'll better understand why it's so pricey. Most of the Aussie Opal fields do at least have roads and some services even if they are quite remote from any decent size town. Not so Andamooka, it is a long long way from anything at all via a goat track, there is nothing there apart from holes and flies.

Wife and I watched the last show and noticed them swatting at some kind of flying bug now we know what it was. Never really noticed them doing it before. Are there parts of the year when they are worse? Warmer/hotter times are worse, during the winter they aren't there at all. To work around them, you need to get up and have your breakfast before light, once the sun comes up it's impossible, same at the other end of the day, as soon as the sun is gone below the horizon its fly free, immediately. The sense of relief is real. Those fly nets are a necessity, not with corks, that's just a tourist thing, Once the flies have settled on your back you leave them there, if they are on your back they aren't in your eyes. I am in Victoria, flies aren't really too much of a problem, sometimes hot Northerly winds can blow them down from the desert and they can be bad for a bit.

Too bad! I really liked this show and looked forward to it coming on the tube after my weekly gold mining shows. I don't really watch anything on television (if they still call it that), but I set the recorder for these rock shows and like watching them over and over.
No plug here, but the new Discovery+ channel has both seasons of this show available. For only 5.99 a month.

Yes, what you just said, Fossilman. We cut our cable about six weeks ago (six weeks, 3 days, and 4 hours, lol) after Cox raised our cable bill from $160-ish to over $205 in a few months! That was enough for me. We've had an Amazon account for some time, was easy to justify getting Amazon Prime. Annually, not monthly. Free shipping, and lots of Amazon perks and Amazon Prime shows to watch. We bought a streaming bar, and are now watching Roku. Went without anything for over five weeks, husband was going through withdrawals. We are still learning about it, and will be adding Discovery+ for $5 or $6 (whatever it is) monthly soon. Never got into Netflix, but damn those cable companies, they are just as bad at gouging the little guy.. We had been with Cox since the early 80's. That's gratitude for you!

Jean, we are considering doing the same thing. We don't watch much network tv at all. Our neighbor gave us a Roku because he doesn't use it. He just has a digital antenna and watches free tv. He doesn't have hi-speed internet, so the programs on Roku kept buffering and he got tired of it. We mainly watch, The Science, Travel, Discovery, Nat Geo, and History channels anyway so getting Discovery+ seems reasonable for $6/mo. with no commercials. We could always get a digital antenna for network tv if we wanted to watch something on there.
How do you like Roku?

Look like we are all moving in same direction. I am 90% cut from cable. I kept the basic 19.95/month cable just to have the weather and local channels during hurricane season. As for the rock shows I like them as well. I could do without the manufactured drama and incessant back stories but I guess that is what it takes to sell to the masses.
