Thank God for circuit breakers. Not the first time they saved our ass from a fire. Woke up this morning and found a circuit out. Every time we flipped the breaker over, it would just not come back on, so first we replaced the breaker and then found the culprit. Figured out it was a bad receptacle.
Did you know that circuit breakers need to be replaced from time to time? They do have a life span. It's an easy job.

Thank you- good to know!
We used to have an old fuse box. Though they seem antiquated, I hear they were actually better because they were more sensitive and didn't have the same fail rate and didn't wear out; whereas, a circuit breaker can be "trained", over time, to allow more amps (overload), which is a hazard. At least, that's what I have been told, but DO correct if I'm wrong.

In Florida we had a lizard get behind a breaker somehow in a panel on the outside of the house where the lines come in. It caused lights to flicker randomly and drove every electrician that came out nuts trying to figure it out. A few circuit panels in the house ended up getting changed and some serious $$$ spent. One guy shows up, listens for a second, and hears a faint crackling sound from that outside panel. That lizard was toast and the contacts on the breaker were black crispy on one side and blue from the heat on the other. es no bueno

I remember the geckos in the house. Mom loved them because they sat in the window eating bugs.
Good thing you didn't have a fire, either.
We had one leg brown out once. Scared the crap out of me. Turned out the power company had to fix the line at the box.

Nothing wrong with fuses. On 3 phase 480v stuff they use fuses all the time. Just not as handy when it blows, can’t reset a fuse, haha.
On a breaker in high current scenarios, an element heats up and a thermal switch shuts off the breaker. This means if your panel is in a cold room it won’t trip as soon.

If your circuit panel is broken it just needs some healing rocks.

Figured out it was a bad receptacle. Bad how, exactly? Well, if I told you, you would think I deserved to be burned out. It involved an electric heater. I'll leave it at that. It was in my teenage grandson's room.

Well, if I told you, you would think I deserved to be burned out. No. Just curious because no apparent concern about any other plugs in the house.

My landlord is a risk taker Big time And always survives
It may be from being electrocuted By a high tension wire As a kid When he climbed a tree
Made his impervious
A few month ago he blew up an old junk yard air conditioner Experimenting with electricity
Big Bang Flash !!
I just happened to walk in to the room when it occurred It nailed me a bit I’m fine
If the electricity doesn’t get ya the huge poisoned fumes from the freon will
never dull moment around here ,,,

I know someone who dumped over 40 lbs of R22 in about 3 minutes and coated the side of my van with oil. Total accident, I promise. ETA: It was on a whey protein chiller and no evidence was left at the scene.
