Was extremely busy at work yesterday. At times 3 people behind bar, plus 2 back barring. Two volunteers were loading and running dishwasher.
I was taking a glass to dishwasher. Did not see a bunch of water in front of dishwasher. I slipped and fell with the glass in my hand. The glass broke and sliced my finger where it meets my hand.
I just sat there for a while in shock. Some customers laughed. Some were concerned, especially when they saw how much I was bleeding. One owner started sweeping glass so I could get up. The other grabbed some some towels so I could wrap my hand. When I washed my hand I saw how deep the cut was. One owner grabbed a special band aid and put it on my hand. Also gave me a glove. Then it was back to business as usual.
This happened about 1 hour into my shift.
Owner later put a mat in front of dishwasher. Apologized to me that he had not done it sooner. He also checked on me throughout the shift and gave me some more band aids to take home. Said he knew i was tough, but did not realize how tough. Felt that many would have been in so much pain they could not function.
Am not taking a photo of the cut, unless someone really wants to see it. It is where my left ring finger meets my hand. About 1/2" long by 1/8" deep.
What awful timing for this to happen. Today is the annual Christmas party for work, at a bowling ally. I am going to try to bowl. Cushion the cut with gauze and surgical tape. Then wear a glove over that. Will let you know if it works.

Hopefully you filed a WC claim and also are up to date on tetanus

Tetanus is fine. Accident was documented. Employer told me to let them know if further treatment was needed so WC would cover it. As of now I think the gash should heal fine with my self treatments.
Am also getting some help with my 4 legged family members. I cannot lift a 60 lb hay bale with just my right side, as that side is still a little compromised from the broken rib.

Sorry to hear about the injury, but glad it was not worse. Wet floors are no joke. Try it in a Burger King next to the broiler! A shuffle is required until you get your sea legs.
Very glad you didn’t get a bone or head injury, although I’m sure you will be sore as your recover. Hopefully owner/boss appreciates your work ethic staying on the job after it happened. Good luck with the bowling.

I was the OSHA compliance person at work for 5 years. Was a Department head and then interim CEO. Previous position at a not for profit serving those with special needs.
As of now my old bones are sore from the fall. Hand is very sore.

I think you need to go get a couple of stitches in there so it doesn't keep splitting open. It will heal faster. Screw the bowling, go and be the score keeper.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Looks like you'll be fine after the cut heals. Had your injury been worse, the company's new name might have been "The Fernwood Brewing Company".

I took many precautions and bowled. It took one game for me to get used to bowling in a new way (stabilizing the ball without using left hand as normal). Even the first game was pretty good. 130. Second was 140. Grandbaby arrived during second game. Third game was 160!
Co-workers kept encouraging me so much during last game. After the second game I was in a "battle" with a co-worker for the high score and high series. By half way through the third game, everyone had given up. My balls were hitting the pocket on almost every first throw.
I had a secret weapon. The beer was flowing freely for everyone but me. I was drinking water until the last game. Then had one beer.
My other secret weapons were AJ and my daughter. They inspire me to do my best at anything.
In the end, I was the only person with a 3 game series over 400. Also had high game. Received a prize for each, plus another for attending. Also have "bragging rights" for being the best bowler.
My hand precautions worked. No bleeding or pain. Took bandages and glove off when I got home. Washed wound and am keeping it open to air until I go to bed.
I had so much fun at the party.
After we were done, I fessed up to company owner. Had told him previously I was on the college bowling team. Let him know my high game then was 275 and high series was 625. At the time I was 8.5 months pregnant. Call it counter balance, lol. Have never bowled that well since then.
So, it was a great day. Hope your day was great as well.

It's nice to see your 10 lb lifting restriction is no more, as you had to throw (at least) 30 frames. I would think that would be an issue if the ball was even lighter than 10 just due to repetitive nature of having to bowl. Glad you've gotten over that.
Then again, I guess you've done better since you can no longer lift 60 pound hay bales with the rib issue. Sounds like things were going well before that happened. Good on you.

Sorry about the hand, congrats on the bowling. I grew up in a partially bowling family. Mom and brother both have been high scorers all their lives. Mom kept at it until cancer took her bladder at 84, she is still treasurer for multiple senior womens leagues. Li'l bro has bowled multiple perfect 300 games in leagues and tournaments and is still at it. I never broke the 200 point barrier, not even close. Watch the rib injury, I had one crack all over again when I overdid it a few weeks after a MC accident, hurt worse than the original injury.

Lifting is at 15 lbs now. I have been using a hay hook to pull the bales in place. Then using it to lift one end of the bale at a time into place. Rib has healed for the most part. I was very careful bowling. Adapted my style to not stress any parts of body.

Finger is not too gross now. Still hurts like crazy if I bend it certain ways or if there is pressure on the cut.
