I had HGTV on as background noise. The show was Good Bones. A Mother (Karen) and Daughter (Mina) team that refurbishes houses in Indianapolis.
Karen "found" some large rocks at a recent purchase.
The first one was split off camera.
Karen is shown splitting the next one. Hammer and chisel. Bare feet holding the about 10" to 12" geode. No gloves, eye protection or mask.
"Amazingly" the geode split almost perfect. It was used as the base for a pair of lamps.
I know this is basically reality TV, but was concerned that some viewers might try this on their own and be injured.

Yikes. I learned in my teens not to do that. I went around for 25 years with a sharp shard lodged just below my lip and thankfully it didn't hit my eye (even if I'd managed to blink, it would have gone right through the lid). Oral surgeon eventually removed it (he couldn't believe what it was or the size and kept it for his collection of oddities), which left me with some loss of sensation.
