I was given a bunch of apache tears. I have tried polishing them in my vibratory tumbler with varying success. 120/220 for 4 days, 500 for 4 days and TPX for 2 days. One batch came out glass like with a beautiful finish. Since then the last two batches have been more of a matte finish. Just not the glass like finish of the first batch. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Welcome to RTH. We have a great tutorials section. In the rock tumbling tutorials you will find a great one for obsidian (apache tears). Several of us here have had much success with obsidian using this method. The process you described does not sound bad at all. The amount of ceramics used and proper wetness during the tumble are also important. This is a direct link to the obsidian tutorial. There is a PDF link in the first post. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/52088/obsidian-rock-tumbling-tutorialChuck
