I could not resist any longer. I clamped up a brazilian agate that would have been a bit awkward in the normal saw vise. The CRS gripper got a good bite on it and the first test cut was a success. I was a bit nervous for sure but I grabbed the rock and tried to loosen it before making the cut and it was a solid hold. Not a very pretty first cut but hopefully the rock gets better further in. Now that I have a flat surface I will mount the rest of the rock to a 2x4 for the rest of the cuts. Thanks for looking Chuck

Looks like you got a hand from the Terminator. Seriously, that looks pretty awesome to have.

Hey there, Chuck. I was really nervous about the first cut with ours, too. Trying to pull it outta' there by hand is all you can do. They really do "grip" well.
Did you play with rotating it and spinning the arms around while it was in there? We've slabbed chunks with pretty oddly-angled ends that way.
That round agate you just cut would've made me extremely nervous. I still worry about chunks that taper uniformly like that - even though we've never had one slip once it was locked in there and tested. Can't help but be nervous about the sound of 18" blades getting trashed... .

Such a cool clamp. Glad you got it tested out and working.

Pete and Sari have their shop where the gripper is made about a 5 minute drive from me. They are a fixture in our NW shows.
