This summer my son and I were in Philipsburg MT for the day and panned some nice sapphires, several of which I left to have faceted. I made this ring for my girlfriend, finished it up yesterday, using the largest one I got back from them. Super pleased with the result 😊

That is amazing, can’t imagine finding such a thing laying in the pan in the rough.

That is amazing, can’t imagine finding such a thing laying in the pan in the rough. It’s a fun place to go, lots of small sapphires to be found, but I only found 4 or 5 large enough to facet. My son found a 3.3ct stone, but didn’t want to have it cut. We had a blast there and it was definitely worth a visit!

Nice design and lovely ring! Looks like you did a great job finishing those prongs, too. The curved wires on either side of the settings are a graceful touch, and they look like they angle down toward the shank to avoid snagging.

The curved wires on either side of the settings are a graceful touch, and they look like they angle down toward the shank to avoid snagging. Thanks Gary! You have a keen eye, those do angle down for that reason. I may fiddle with the design a bit more if I do it again, there’s a bit much unsupported metal near the center of the ring.

Nice stone! Which place did you go too in Philipsburg? We usually hit both mines and get gravel to take with us, during our travels... Always sapphires in the bunch..

fossilman we went to Gem Mountain, not in town but out where we panned several buckets of gravel. Stayed for the day. I could have spent a week doing that. My son too and he was 13!

Beautiful setting with the stone! Wife and I have hounded there also, next trip we want to stay n that area for awhile also..... It's so excluded away from the busy world of today!
