Spoke with a local friend last night who works at a travel insurance company. They are swamped with questions and policy requests. Mandatory overtime.

Wife knits/crochets. She had me order 100 sweater buttons through Ebay two months ago and I didn't know that they were coming from China. They finally landed a couple weeks ago and many thoughts crossed my mind. I ended up cutting open the package, pouring out the buttons and disposing the packaging. Scrubbed my hands real good. Wonder if anyone is getting rocks from China lately? If so, make sure to tumble the corona off.

Yeah, where DH works, they get a lot shipped from sick areas in China. Everyone is on edge abt it, but no policy as far as I know. Wuhan is a major port and there is a lot of manufacturing there and near to it. As contagious as the virus is, I am a little concerned.

Anybody need a suggested list of things to stack up in case of a local lockdown? If you look at Italy, it didn't take long for store shelves to empty. Fights broke out in some stores. Worse, people lined up with each other in tight crowds.

Be careful popping bubble wrap! It contains Chinese air.

Hawaii is already running out of toilet paper. Always one of the first things to go.

I'm not a prepper, but I do live in hurricane country and have bob bags along with with home prep stuff.
Toilet paper is one of the first things to go. It's really bulky, too, so it's hard to put it up. I flattened a bunch of rolls and vacuum sealed them individually. Then I filled 5 gallon buckets with it. I am NOT going without TP.
When putting things up, like the food I home canned, figure at lest 2 weeks worth. Some people say 90 days, but I live in a populated area that will get relief sooner than if I lived in the boonies. If you have a well, awesome. Otherwise you can put water up in 2 liter bottles or other things. Just add a little bleach. I forget the ratio, but it's very small. First I filter the water and then bleach and store.
It's very easy to put together emergency supplies. Look up some hurricane preparedness lists. You don't need to get everything at once. We did it over a year. We rotate some things and replenish when needed. It's an art to us now. Takes some of the the worry out of the storms.
People are talking about the possibility of needing to stay in your house awhile if the flu gets bad. It probably won't happen, but if it does, it's nice to be ready.

Other than rare heavy rain the biggest potential for a natural disaster is an earthquake. More recently it is wildfires and as a result of that our power company started preventive power shut downs during periods of heavy winds. They typically last a few days. I haven't had any significant food loss. I did buy a cell phone a tablet and three charging devices (not generators) so I can have phone and internet access during the outage and haven't had to deal with heating or cooling issues only no television.

That looks to be a pretty informative blog in the link you shared. I didn't see it in the article, so thanks for that. BTW, bleach was mentioned in the "List of Essentials" in the article you shared, so you're right on point.
