No shortage of kosher dill pickles either. Bought a bushel of Florida pickling cucumbers at the SC State Farmers Market last Saturday and put up 24 quarts + 8 pints. I use the store bought dill pickle mix and add plenty of extra fresh garlic cloves and dill. Will hold me down for two years. Give them away at Christmas, etc. Kept some of the larger cucumbers to slice and serve with vinegar and oil, salt and pepper. Clara Johnson's pickle recipe has been the blue ribbon winner at the county fair for eleven years now. Aunt Bee's pickles taste like Kerosene.

Definitely quartz crystal plate on the left, specifically from Diamond Hill Mine in SC, with iron staining. Chicken tender on the right. Black pepper a dead give-a-way.
Andy Griffith Show Season 2, Episode 11 The Pickle Story
"Aunt Bee and Clara Johnson are both jarring homemade pickles. The only difference is that Clara's are good enough to win blue ribbons at the county fair eleven years and counting while Aunt Bee's taste like she floats them in kerosene. The boys are too polite to tell Aunt bee the truth about her pickles and decide to switch Aunt Bee's pickles with store-bought pickles. The plan backfires when Bee decides to enter her pickles in the contest."

The wife and I always ferment our pickles. Nothing beats a perfect half sour. Looking forward to more soon...
