I bought toilet paper today, does that count as prepping?
I went to Costco on Friday (big mistake!). The nearest store (La Mesa, CA) has been building a gas station for the last six months. They just started "modifying" the parking lot, making berms, restriping, etc., changing things up. Shoppers confused, trying to go the wrong way on one way parking aisles. It was the first time I had been there since the changes, but I know that when a sign says "Don't Enter" it means just that, lol.
I went with the intention of getting some toilet paper, because I was getting low. Not to hoard it, or make a profit reselling it. I knew I was SOL when I saw people coming out of the store pushing shopping carts full of cases of bottled water, but no TP. Yep, Costco was out of a bunch of staples.
When the TP runs out, there's always using your left hand, and then washing it well...

I got my TP and other supplies about 6 weeks ago and went back for more 2 weeks ago, when the majority of people were still repeating the mantra "it's just like the flu". However, I didn't believe this when I saw China's response in mid-Jan to the pending crisis and know something about R0, CDR and exponential math. Still, as far as I am concerned, we are still in the early stages but in a matter of days will have the hospitals overwhelmed. Now, the best anybody can do is keep their social distance and try to avoid getting sick or getting others sick. I hope I am wrong but prepared somewhat for what is likely coming. I suggest everybody look at their situation too. I have visited many small town remote Canada graveyards and everyone has a spike in graves from the flu. Some had mass graves. But don't fight over TP.

I work in the entertainment business as a stagehand. Just had 2 weeks of work canceled because public events are unsafe now. Could be bad for the whole industry.

Now that’s an effect that no one can dispute. Wow. Too bad.

Sister works for a catering company. When she walked into work today, they had lost $13,000 from canceled events. When she left it was up to $25,000.

Airlines, cruiselines, sporting events. Two big outdoor music festivals in Indio CA (near Palm Springs), Coachella and Stagecoach, were just cancelled. . Coachella, Stagecoach officially postponed over coronavirus concerns . 5 hours ago
While it is nothing to take lightly, doctors are saying it is being over hyped by the MSM, blown way out of proportion as to the mortality rate. I'd just as soon not get it (don't like being sick), so I will take precautions. Better safe than sorry. (But I refuse to hoard TP!)

I had a Dr appt yesterday. I asked the nurse how it was going with the virus out there. She said people were panicking and they were swamped. The doc said they went to reorder hand sanitizer and the supplier was out. If dr's offices can't get it that's just insane.

The hysteria could harm more than the illness Like the financial markets? I don't have a huge portfolio, but by the end of February, I had taken a $7k hit.

The average age of death from this virus is 81 so it's taking out the weakest. Eat Right and take your Vitamins.

Good advice, if you have more money to invest. I'm just sitting tight, it will recover. It's the people panicking and selling out that is crashing the market.

It's not just the virus that's causing the market results. It's the impending oil price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. The latter being probably more of a cause.
