One of the most valuable lessons for me has been in soldering I didnt melt this one

Soldering is one of the hardest basic skills to learn in silversmithing, I think. Just the fact that you have to get the whole piece up to temp to get the solder to flow makes it more difficult and easier to melt stuff. Add in multiple soldering stages and accidentally remelting previous solder joins or actually coming in too hot from the beginning and burning your solder before it can flow, etc. and it can make for some frustration.
If we were all rich kids and worked in gold, we'd have none of those problems. I know goldsmiths who abhor working with silver because it's so difficult.
Considering you've only been doing this for a very short time, you are doing an excellent job of it!

I have to ask because I've been looking at those saddle rings you did and I can't figure it out. How exactly did you do that textured part? I figured you used a rolling mill or texture hammers or stamps on it, but did you fuse the little squares on?

Billy ran it through a rolling mill with one of the plates he had. Left a half textured half not which was really cool

Billy ran it through a rolling mill with one of the plates he had. Left a half textured half not which was really cool I love that texture. It's very you. The pattern plate has one side that has the little square holes clogged up with something and at first couldn't figure out why half came out smooth. Another accidental conundrum that looked like we had planned it that way. That Miss Ali sure is good.
