Here's some pic's and continued from latest discussion....:
As compared to rough cut.......lots of soft centers......resulting in polished flaws.......showed up in AO 500 cycle.
Rough showed signs of possible undercutting........Fractures appeared in AO 500 cycle.
Same results at AO 500 cycle.
Micro pitting on Granite type became apparent at AO 1000 cycle.
After closer inspection of the Granite type stone (gem mag glass), the pitting is actually tiny metallic (silver looking) particles, not polish residue. All cuts came from same larger stone shown in rough photos......these are embedded throughout, not from any contamination.......no other stones in the same batch had them.
Lessons learned with different (from my norm) polishing compound use........at least the Cerium Oxide, used after what was suppose to be Rock Shed's AO Polish stage, resulted in a pretty nice gloss sheen.......As expected, imperfections abound. But at least my goal to get a deeper hue then what was resulting with the AO Polish, came to light.........from SC120/220 thru Cerium Oxide finish, 60hrs total processing time.......about 15hrs more than what I'm used to.......lol
