Enough tree work. Fun part beginning. Rain delay. They got part of the scaffold up yesterday. By days in Thursday today things will look quite different.

High end 15'x20' supporting frame finished Wed/Thurs. by 3 man father/son/father's friend marathon. This will be with big windows and the north section of the 35'x15' great room. Gentlemen Luizito, Luiz and Jorge have a great sense of quality. Wonderful to work with. A big thanks. Over built frame and footings: Labor as of yesterday for frame and footings $9000 with me bringing materials in close to job.

With all the wood alligators in Georgia it seemed logical to use treated wood Joshua. Treated wood is super wet and warps terribly and needs to dry to avoid water entrapment after enclosing. SO, we will built rigidly to foil warpage and let the frame bask in the sun for a month or two to dry in the spring sun. The carpenters usually start covering the frame on the 4th day in production builds like subdivisions. Time is money I suppose in that business. The chemicals in treated wood much more benign than pumping Dursban annually into human dwellings !

I built my deck out of treated lumber and was surprised by a few things, namely how much moisture came out when I was putting the screws in the decking, and how much contraction there was in the length of the deck boards. I used 5/4 with rounded edges. My biggest mistake was not staining it after giving it time to dry out. At this point I'd need to pressure wash before staining. We have the same wood-eaters you guys do.
I can't wait for you to invite the whole RTH gang over for a cookout!

They'd all have big eye disease once they started shopping those agates. Man I fried this room by closing up fresh wet treated studs with bead board. Within a year a superb mildew bloom arrived. Terrible mistake. Check out my old out back camp on Lake George Florida near Salt Springs. Seriously Jurassic. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/albums/72157632324991181Mildew room ready for trim:

Wow. Not messing around I see. Looking great from here... 👍🏼 Thanks, must say the carpenters are making it easy. They are tired of slapping frames together in a rush for builders. Really getting into the relaxed enviro and better materials. Using their skills better. Their average lunch break siesta is 2 to 3 hours. Street tacos, fancy Mexican dishes, fine smells. Lots of exploring and hiking around hiking around. Their kids now know how to drive ATV's. Next step is to put them on fishing in the big bass ponds. I will likely stay here to the end Evan. 34 years so far lol !

'Old Florida' 120 miles up the St. John's River EricD. Thanks Commercial catfish and blue crab fisheries still exist there. Hadn't changed much in decades. Like Montana, no need to be a good photographer.

Let's crank up some unconventional construction. Prepped Thursday, 40 yards poured yesterday Saturday. Add 2 more slabs not pictured. Super duty 12' x 10' x 4 foot deep footings for tree top mini computer office tower... RED concrete integrally stained poured in tons of rebar-ed steel pipe forms. 75 feet of pipes held above slab grade and sloped for maximum water diversion around house. Heavy rains today, anxious to see water diversion performance. Conventional full basement

You took “thinking outside the box”, threw away the box, colored it brilliant RED, and raised it 5 stories. Diverting all naysayers in a prepared, sloped, cess-pipe lol
