So, on March 18 I had a free hour to finally go meet up with my fellow RTH'er and Columbia SC resident, RickB. We'd been talking about meeting up for a month or more, but our schedules hadn't aligned yet. I was able to run by after work for an hour and meet up and see his treasures. He'd also offered me a good deal on a tumbler he wasn't using, and I couldn't pass that up, of course. I'm very glad I got to meet up with Rick and Mrs. Rick, and hopefully after this Corona Virus passes, we can get back together and do some rock collecting. I have a feeling he could teach me a lot. Rick's been rockhounding and collecting for a while, and has the goods to show for it with specimens from some of our regional sites that he collected over the years as a member of several rock clubs. Everywhere you turn at Rick's there's something else cool to see. Museum quality amethyst and cool quartz specimens abound, as well as lots of other materials. A true rockhound he's got crates and buckets stacked up in and around his shed, each one more interesting than the last. Lots of Savannah River Agate/Chert, geodes, pet wood, etc. He's also a talented knapper, and had some gorgeous projects that he'd completed around, along with a lot of knapping materials. I was really amazed and pleased to see his handiwork. I ended up with the tumbler, a trim saw project, and a big bucket of Kentucky Geodes to crack or slice. It was a great day, but in all my excitement I neglected to take a picture of us together. I'll blame it on social distancing. Hopefully I'll remember next time. Here's to finally meeting a new friend, and to many future meetings, and collecting trips! Thanks RickB it meant a lot to me to meet you! Hope to get together again soon. -Josh

Joshua, it was great meeting up with you when it was safer to do so. I'm looking forward to getting together again, and when the Columbia Gem and Mineral Club returns to having meetings again, I'll make it to one of them. I've been a member twice and know quite a few of the long-time members there. Owner of a local rock shop talked me into joining in the mid-sixties when I was in my senior year in high school. When I joined, I missed being a charter member by about a month and a half. Make sure to post some photos of polished stones when you get the Thumbler Ultra-vibe 18 into the rotation. Best, RickB

joshuamcduffie saved on shipping but I made him drive 15 miles to pick the UV-18 up. Only 9.6 miles each way. I'm actually surprised it's that far. I've probably driven by your neighborhood a thousand times.

You wouldn't have known I was there. I've tried to keep the rocks well hidden. Bushes and wood fence.
