Hi,
I have a lot of petrified wood found just north of denver. I am trying to figure out what kind of trees it came from. Any thoughts?

Petrified wood that is related to existing tree species can be identified by comparing ray, ring, and cell structures (e.g., some, like oaks, are fairly distinctive). Others, and more exact matches requires some exploring under magnification: link linkWhile mindat has a zoomable map that shows certain deposits (see www.mindat.org/min-8018.html and scroll down), not everything is shown. You might see whether any universities with geology departments in that area list any resources (maps of exposed strata, etc.).

Hi and welcome. I'm sure if you post pictures of the wood in the section for identification there will be people on here who can help you identify it.
