I asked for and received my first Guinea pig from my parents for my tenth birthday. We got it at Sears!! While I was at school the next day, my three year old sister carried it in and out of the house and all over, and killed it. So I got another one, then another, and we had them for years. At the end of 11th grade, there was a mouse in my science class that needed to be rehomed, so I brought it home and built a cage for it. My first mouse, it was grey and white, I named him Ferguson. I found out he was a she. I still called her Ferguson, lol. I have always had pets, of one type or another, until just a few years ago. I was going to edit this to add that I have never had a hamster. LIAR! I remembered that I had dwarf Siberian hamsters for a while. Almost forgot about them... I had a dog once for 6 days. Had a hamster for a couple months. Cats for a good 5 or 6 years that kinda made my yard and surrounding area their home. They chased away foxes and ran clear up a 50 foot tree after birds. [/a]
Had to move and let them go. Found a good farm home for them. They loved killing! They were huge, that's a full size couch cushion.

Wow, they sure were some big kitties!! Funny how some cats are natural born killers, and the rest are just wusses. I suppose you could legitimately call them "pussies." Ha ha!

Lol yeah. These were fully equipped hunters. They loved me and dad, and food. And killing. And warmth. They hated the house, except the entry room. They wouldn't set foot beyond but could sleep peacefully for hours in the entry room. Especially if the door was open

EricD Your cats really seemed to like each other. I have never had cats that liked each other. One time I had 3 - they all avoided each other.

EricD Your cats really seemed to like each other. I have never had cats that liked each other. One time I had 3 - they all avoided each other. The orange one was born in our wood-pile in the middle of winter. We brought him into the entry-room and left the door open so mom could come in and out at will, and fed them.
The black one showed up a baby, probably exiled from a neighbor's house. They had a crap-ton of cats. Maybe it was hungry, mom died, etc. Who knows.
The orange one gave it hell to begin with. Hissing, slapping, trying to run it off. For a long time. After about 3 months he started to become fond of him and stopped, except to play. Eventually they became inseparable. Best of friends. They likely had no choice living outside in Montana

Another rodent showed up. Wasn't getting into the food, so live and let live (more or less). The rodent pulled down some insulation from the dishwasher, so war was declared. I got rid of the previous ones with pre baited sticky traps. I put down one in my catching place and he didn't bite. I decided to up the ante yesterday and put down two new traps baited with chunks of Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese. When I woke up this morning one of the traps was gone. Either my son disposed of the rodent or the rodent took his cheese order to go. A small mouse has been disposed of. I moved the one under the dishwasher to a better location. I hope this is the end. I don't want to deal with a pest control service or poison. We had a cat and dogs for many years and that probably kept them away. No more pets.

You might want to step it up with a rat trap It could be a squirrel or a rat

My roommate at college had a nasty boyfriend. One night she told me she had a confession to make. She had dumped the boyfriend and taken his rat. "Good trade," I said. We kept the rat hidden in the room (it was against regulations.) We had a plan of what to do if there was a fire alarm, etc in the middle of the night (this happened often, there was never actually a fire), and where we would hide the cage during the day. We kept the rat safe and we were never caught. It was very tame and sweet. I had never liked rats before -- my father used to tell me horror stories of rats at the farm.

I have a good friend who is somewhat a pro ratter. My daughter had them and my husband had one. They really are good pets. Very smart and emotional. Short lived, though. There are such things as domesticated rats. They are much different from the wild ones and have been bred to be good pets.
