How deep does banding go on fairburns? Most look like if you tried to polish, you’d lose most of the fortifications. Is that typical? Or if you cut them open, banding goes all the way through. It just depends on the Fairburn. You gotta remember the fortification pattern forms "inside" the rock initially. In most cases in this thread, the outer part of the rock has been eroded away, exposing the fortification. So...there could be a LOT of fortification still left inside...or a little...or maybe it goes all the way through.

This isn't something I normally pay attention to...but the other day I saw how my post count as "adding up" here lately. I also noticed the post count for the person who was responsible for bringing me to the forum, jakesrocks! Don passed away before I joined the forum...but it was his posts on Fairburn Agates that came up in Google searches which caused me find the forum...and subsequently peruse the forum beyond information on Fairburn Agates. I never thought the forum would end up becoming what it has for me. So...in honor of Don and his 12,696 posts...I'm posting a picture of one of my Fairburn Agate wraps as my 12,696th post. Thank you Don!

Do you believe in reincarnation? Jake had a dog too, but he held his on his lap. You don't have an antique car as well do you? You both have made valuable contributions to the forum.

Heck...I wish I knew a tenth of what Don knew about Fairburns! I've gone through a ton of his old posts...and I know I would have really enjoyed getting to know him. Everything happens for a reason though... And yes...I do believe in reincarnation. My wife had a cat with whom she was very close. I swear that damn dog of ours is that cat reincarnated! I constantly call him a "cat dog" because he has that stereotypical "aloof" attitude prevalent in cats! LOL

Maybe this is why you find more Fairburns than I do...I've stared at that ground shot for quite awhile, and be danged if I can see the Fairburn in there! LOL - It's worse than "Where's Waldo?" LOL

Take a bottle of water with you jasoninsd Wet rocks show up better then dry ones Oh I do!! I've taken a garden sprayer with me when I was going on the river...that way I could fill it up in the river, and spray ALL the rocks in the rock beds!

LOL That's why I put the picture there my friend....it's almost directly in the center, next to a larger rock... 🙂
