NRG Wow! How exciting for you & Jeanine. The sweet retired life is going to be great. I don't know what rocks are found in that area, but I'm sure there's something good close by. Lynn

Congrats Scott. Once we're in AZ, probably in fall, we'll be about 12 hours away. We will also be mobile, should have a toy hauler RV by the end of the weekend. I have a good friend and a master metalsmith who now lives in Colorado Springs as well. Maybe we'll finally get to hang out. Lee that would be awesome. We learned this week the RV pad does have septic hookup. You can hang out all whenever!! We can make stuff and hang out! Nothing would be better.

Lynn Lynn, we may have to visit you for rocks. Or northern AZ or New Mexico or Texas.... 😎 Bring your RV and hang out a week or two!

Lynn Lynn, we may have to visit you for rocks. Or northern AZ or New Mexico or Texas.... 😎 Bring your RV and hang out a week or two! Thanks for the invite! We don't have an RV (yet!) There may be one in our future. As for visiting me for rocks, are you saying there's not much to hound in that part of Colorado? Or are you saying it's centrally located to all of those other rockhounding places you listed? BTW, the local club is going to Holt Canyon on May 23. Due to social distancing guidelines, we've limited attendance to 20 club members who have not gone there with the club already. I've been there a few times (I've lost track!), but I'm leading the trip. I can't wait. It's still my favorite place to hound. It replaced my agate beach I used to hound in the Bay Area. Lynn

Like Tommy I missed this thread. Its in superarea with the proviso that you will deal with a little snow in the winter, but firewood is abundant, and once retired you will not have to go out unless you want to. How you will stand waiting 7 years to make the permanent move is hard to understand. Lets assume you will make many trips to visit it. I will say, we never know what our "last house" will be. If we live long enough, there's always hope for something that fits our needs better. This coming from someone who just moved to a smaller, less rural, and more energy efficient house that we both love and appreciate that it was time to trade things for other things. If you can't live in New Mexico, southern Colorado is pretty darned good. Best of luck in the preparation and transition. Tom

Lol As for the seven years, it’s base camp for huntings seasons now and white Christmas and more. Probably a few trips a year.

Tommy thanks amigo zarguy yeah, no cuttable materials nearby. It’s all igneous The gold mine rock shop outside of Canon City will keep a cutter busy for a long time. There is a tremendous fossil fauna not so far away either, but its Cenozoic stuff that is not lapidary appropriate in most forms.

As the crow flies your new home is 26 miles east of some of the largest geodes in the world! Wow! Gonna be there next week. May have to pop over just to see the area. Mindat pinpoints the obsidian mine just north of silver cliff. Easy peasy short trip.

Congratulations Scott and Jeannie! Very happy for you guys Thanks. Jeannie's son who she named after you will be staying there as a caretaker until we move in. Which, maybe could, be sooner than expected. Turns out there was a huge drop in birth rate 14 years ago and high schools will need less teachers starting this coming fall
