Congratulations Scott and Jeannie! Very happy for you guys Thanks. Jeannie's son who she named after you will be staying there as a caretaker until we move in. Which, maybe could, be sooner than expected. Turns out there was a huge drop in birth rate 14 years ago and high schools will need less teachers starting this coming fall Hopefully an early retirement deal?

They call it "golden parachute". We are there permanent as soon as she can retire and I sell my pad.

Congratulations on your new home, Scott and Jeannie! May you enjoy your forever home forever!
Just a wee bit of advice: Make sure you get all the locks rekeyed on the house as soon as you can. You never know how many people the the buyers gave keys to over the years.

Sorry, kiddo. Gotta go a few pay grades above teacher before ya hit that golden zone. Not in Cali! 😘 Yep......CalPers has many variable retirement options.......years of continued service (over 30) is just one "golden" element.....My wife is an administrator (accountant) for a school district here.......she has 6yrs before qualified retirement kicks in, she'll also have 25yrs service. Most likely she'll work the additional 5yrs if we don't win a lottery.......and life stays as is.........lol..........Good for you & the wife NRG.......You've paid your dues and invested wisely.....wishing you guys a happy, quiet down hill retirement........!

jeannie was on her way to spend the weekend at the new house. She saw smoke. Yep, wildfire less than a mile from the new place. Here is a pic from a neighbor. Green roof is ours Firefighters squelched it. They are there today mopping up. True heros. Perhaps aDave can educate us on how lightning (verified present) could start a fire 9-12 hours later. Little scare. Insurance is key. HOA to address secondary egress. No harm no foul.

Wow. So glad that wildfire was put down quick. That's too close for comfort. We've had lots of them around the state -- a few really large ones, too.
It could be that the fire was smoldering for hours from the lightning before it really ignited and nobody noticed it.

All I can assume is the lightning strike caused smoldering for a long period period of time before the actual fire broke out. A lightning strike might not instantaneously cause a fire. That might be the case for you in this instance. I'm just guessing at this point, but if there are documented lighting strikes at one time, I'd have to believe a fire breaking out much later is due to the smoldering effect.
