Our dishwasher is a nice KitchenAid with slimline touch controls on top of the door. If you don’t clean the control panel often enough it will shut itself off during the wash cycle. my fridge is a 15 year old kenmore no whistles no bells, my dish washer is from the Philippines and has size 5 feet so she can get closer to the sink. Billy!

We bought a GE freezer on the bottom just over four years ago. Love it! I don't remember what the model is called but it has horizontal opening bars rather than the typical vertical ones. No water dispenser, no ice maker, no cameras, no voice recognition, no speakers, no USB ports, no coffee maker, no tv...just white with two doors. I like the glass shelves because they prevent anything from dropping onto stuff below. I also dislike wire shelves because small footprint items tend to tip easily. I chose the freezer without the dual drawer because I wanted to maximize my freezer space (didn't have an additional freezer, nearest grocery store 28 miles.) This freezer has a wire shelf and a wire basket below it. If you are not able to get down on your knees you might not like this configuration. I like the temperature controls--up front, easy to see, but not in the way. Plenty of light. Energy usage seems to be low. Last August without AC running in the house it used less than 60 kWh. I clean similarly to what lookatthat described. I only do it once a year, though, and just vacuum. In the case of this refrigerator it means removing 5 screws and a panel on the back. Well worth the effort in my opinion. You can hear it running from perhaps 12 feet away when there isn't any other sound, but nothing like rocks2dust described. Overall the refrigerator is doing a good job. Only downside I have discovered is that nothing must touch the sidewalls inside the refrigerator. If something touches a sidewall then it freezes the stuff in the meat and vegetable drawers.

Sorry in advance for the long (true) story...
Among other problems including broken ice maker water feed, we were having the same issue with our old fridge - drain clogged causing frozen flooding and having to break out the ice dam every few weeks. We put up with this for several years - even before we kicked our adult kids out and moved into the house - and as long as we could stand it. In early January of this year after a huge amount of research, we bought a new Samsung double door with bottom freezer that cost us just over $2000.
Three weeks after taking delivery of it we noticed that the selection buttons and lights on the water/ice/crushed-ice dispenser had gone out. The dispenser still worked but to change between selections had to occur inside the fridge on the control panel thing. We contacted Samsung and they put us in touch with a local repair contractor.
One week later, repairman came out and diagnosed it as a common problem with the Samsung fridges - wiring inside the door that contains the dispenser has broken inside the door and thus the whole door needed to be replaced. Another week later, the repairman returns with a new left door and proceeded to install it. When he was finished and asking for a sign off my wife noticed a small ripple in the bottom right corner of the door as if it had been banged on something, plus the top of the new door was not aligned good with the right door. The dispenser and lights are working fine. Anyway, she told him no way in hell we were approving the dented door and so off he went. Samsung calls a few days later checking on the status and were also told no way no how.
One week later repairman returns with the next new left door, brings it into the house and announces that it is also dented and asking if he should install it. Again, no way Jose, we aren't taking it. Samsung calls again wanting to close it out, nope. Another week goes by and we got another call from Samsung saying that they were closing the case and offering us several options including a full refund. In order to complete the refund transaction we needed to agree that we would unplug the fridge and cut the power cord and send them a photo of the cut cord. We also had to agree to peel off and send them the s/n label and then dispose of the fridge in the proper manner.
After almost full compliance, we got a check for our full purchase price. The search for a replacement fridge is going very very very very slow.
Edited to add two more verys...

Well we didn't start off thinking about devious outcomes but Samsung put us in this position by deciding they would not continue to try to fix our broken fridge, and at the same time stating it would be 4-6 weeks to receive the refund money after they gave final approval. While we were still waiting for final approval the Covid thing was blowing up and we both got laid off. As everyone can probably relate to it was such an uncertain time and we were in NO position to run out and spend $2000 on a replacement fridge. What money we had we needed for essential things like hoarding toilet paper! (kidding)

The companies that make appliances to this to people all the time and they get away with it. Ain't right.

I guess I'm just feeling a few pangs of guilty conscience Sorry for way-laying your thread I think the takeaway is be careful if you are considering a Samsung. My son and his wife swayed our decision because have the same one we ended up getting and they love theirs.

Not way laying it at all. Unfortunately, I think that's probably the case with a lot of brands. Every once in a while there's a lemon, but there's no lemon law for appliances. There needs to be, though.

I can't say much on the performance of different brands, but the one thing that I have learned to look for is any limitations on a refrigerator when it comes to ones that have an ice maker and/or water dispenser. If you are looking for one that has one or both of those features, make sure you pay close attention when they want to sell you one that has it's own water filters. The one we had at our last place in Nevada would only take one type of filter, and all it did was filter out chlorine, and not anything else. Getting ice from something like that is akin, in my mind, to just dropping frozen blocks of poison into your drink.

Tommy's experience reminded me of some friends' experience with a Samsung refrigerator. Long story short, they bought one of the most expensive Samsungs about three years ago. Three service calls within the first 6 weeks to get it to work correctly (actually chill).
