I see all the time posts on FB asking "what do you do with your tumbled rocks?" I've never sold any, either wife gets them or I give to folks. On another forum, not rocks, a fellow mentioned that his three year old grandson loved rocks and had started a collection. I offered to send him some and he sent me these photos, makes it so worthwhile! A couple of weeks later the young guy was still loving them:

Yep, every year for three or so, the grand nephews and nieces got a collective gift of a bunch of tumbles. They had to take the time to sort them among themselves after the chaos of the main gift exchange had occurred. Several weeks later I got a photo from the nephew's mother showing an array of many rocks all arrayed in systematic order on this top of his bedroom dresser. It was a gift that lasted (or held his attention) much more time than a leggo super model. The grand niece who was in the 6-7 stage kept hers inside her bureau, protecting them I suppose. I thinking of placing a pottery bowl in my front yard and periodically filling it with "rejects" that are still pretty in most folks' eyes. As folks take one or many, I can replenish it as needed.

The QC inspector (MLW) gets first pick....she has two jewelry friends who will either warp or foundation set.......they either sell or become gifts.
Those that don't make her grade (all my odd balls), get either frig mag'd or exhibited in glass jars.....all (the nice stuff)l of which end up as gifts to friends and family eventually...........I'll keep a few of my personal accomplishments (strife reminders) as to not keep mundane or strive again for mediocrity.......Perfection Not a Goal, rather a reminder of my limitations.

Here's a picture a friend just sent me, I sent some rocks to his grandson a year ago. It's his birthday today and my friend reworked the photo.

Here's another thing we've done with bits and pieces while being locked down...........The Grandson has had a little 3gal fresh water cylinder tank (360*) for 2.5yrs now. Only a Beta and Nerite snails. When he stays here, he's become very responsible with the care. So time to get a bit bigger, more serious and retire the little tank. I think a few here at RTH have read a few of my posts related to aquarium experience.......of which 30yrs devoted to marine and cichlid raising. Anyway, we went with a fresh water 10gal for Fathers Day........I'd gone bigger (less maintenance) but we have little space anymore, thus, after moving here, I sold all my serious equipment and tanks.......:
The bits and pieces laying on the gravel bed are mostly Citrine, Rose-Fire-Iron Quartz and a bit of Brazilian Agate I had jarred up....The photo's really don't show just how sparkly it turned out.......tried to stay with a color scheme that would blend and contrast a little with the Shubunkin........oh ya, the Beta and snails all made the transfer quite well.....LOL
We'll keep the population down and a civil environment for now.........Cichlids are my passion, but in a tank this size, way to much maintenance and the "1 inch per gallon" rule just won't work here........The Shubunkin will get big enough as is, and anyone who knows Goldfish, they can pollute a tank instantly........lol

Great photos. Enjoyed every one of them. The second most consistent question on my tumbling videos is "what do you do with the rocks?"

Great photos. Enjoyed every one of them. The second most consistent question on my tumbling videos is "what do you do with the rocks?" Thank you Greig..........These new LED lights installed in the tank hoods make for great real life observation. Not so much cell phone photo's. I tried to concentrate on the rocks........but the white balance wash out did not do the tank justice. Guess I could have pulled out the Nikon, was to lazy to get serious....lol
