So I am buying a bunch of old lapidary equipment. Some of it has been sitting out in the weather for a number of years, and some has been well protected. The stars of the show are an 18" Lortone saw which is in excellent condition and an 18" (or 20", haven't measured it) vibrating flat lap with two pans, one of which looks unused. And this poor little 12" freestanding slab saw which could very well be a strong candidate for Grand Champion in the World's Ugliest Saw competition. The pan is solid, though rusty. Arbor turns freely, motor turns freely. Lid hinges are broken, blade is bent, and as you can see there's "just a bit of rust." A bit concerned about the carriage rails and feed screw. But I'll douse everything in penetrating oil, pull it all apart, sandblast everything and go from there. Not worried about it at all because the price for the lot was just a screamin' deal. If this poor thing has to be put down it will still be a screamin' deal.

Looks like it was a nice little saw in its day, blade looked brand new. What a shame. I hope you are able to resurrect it.

arghvark Eric, how's the 12" saw project coming along? I have five new 12" diamond blades if you need any. They are Lortone 12" X .040 with a 1/2 - 5/8 arbor. I got these in an estate sale and I don't have a 12" saw so I'm looking to trade or sell them.

I haven't even started on it - there is a lot of stuff in that bunch of equipment and I have a lot going on this summer. May be a while. But I may still be interested in a couple 12" blades. Shoot me a pm, and when I get to it I'll check out the arbor. Thanks!

I would never junk a saw no matter how rusted it was

I did one of these up earlier in the year, nice cute little saw. mine Had a "R&M " sticker on it, was apparently a shop in Salem, OR - not sure if they made them or just put their stickers on them. There are several notes around about R & M saws so?? Mine cut pretty decent, but there were a few weak points to the design, so I moved it on. only have a before blurry pic.

I have one that looks exactly like this one, little rust bucket. I haven't gotten to it yet either.
