Uses gravel of varying sizes in the mix. I'm sure this has been asked before but has anyone ever tumbled or thought about tumbling old concrete/paving?
I'm asking because I have access to some and some of the gravel involved looks like decent sized. Not great, but decent.
Any advice, thoughts, comments, and experiences are welcome!

Here is some " urbanite" I tumbled, I have not put it through polish yet(I don't think) but it is turning out pretty nice. I have a piece from the gulf i plan to tumble soon too. i had also thought about getting quicrete and sifting the gravel out and substituting the chips from my tile saw in little eggs or molds

The lime in the concrete may also tend to gas off and blow the seals out on tumblers as well.

I can't tell you how many times I've picked up ocean tumbled brick pieces on the beach. They are attractive when wet but . . . there are other things in life that are preferable.

Hrm, might not be an option then. Darn, I was looking forward to trying it. Oh well there are other rocks around LOL

I am in Indiana. Otherwise known as the armpit of the known universe LOL Still might try tumbling some of this concrete that's lying around here... just for giggles I get most of my stuff from Gemsbymail. I do however often walk the railroad track here until I find something interesting. Oh! Railroad rock, white driveway rock, how do those tumble up? Anyone know?

The harder the concrete , the better your results should be. Watch the barrel bottoms for pressure buildup, just open and close it to release pressure. Don't be too afraid to try new things in the tumbler, just keep a close watch.
Isn't the foundation of the railroad track made from Granite, that stuff will tumble and look great but very hard to shine up.

I believe you are right, Wooferhound. Polish isn't the be all and end all, right? LOL As long as it looks good, I'm happy. And there are usually a lot of other rocks mixed in. So... all in all, not a bad idea to scavenge occasionally lol

you could always polish them up real nice and keep them in a fish tank or a clear vase with flowers, some place they would be visible but wet

Here is some granite that I stole from a railroad track. Like I said, it looks great tumbled, but not the greatest shine.
