Greetings All! I stumbled across this looking for information on tumbling and lapidary. Being nearly ancient, 54 counts right?, I'm looking for a new hobby that has something beautiful to it. Stumbled on this. Worked EMS for 30 years and maybe will get to retire in another 10 or so. Hoping to learn a bit, probably ask some stupid questions here and there, and get into what looks like a fun and fascinating thing. Hope you all are doing well. Take Care! Rich aka the grumpy old guy.

Welcome from the Desert Southwest, Grumpy! I stumbled upon the forums at the same age, for just about the same reasons. Stupid questions are also welcome here, as I ask more than my share of them. Hope to see you posting some time soon.

Its a wonderful activity; stimulating to the senses (visual, cognitive, and tactile for sure) and it works well as a solitary activity or a group effort. Jump into the fray and tell us what you are doing and what you want to do.

Haha Jean. Gruppy is a term for old salty techs. Kinda opposite of hoopy. Lol

Okay, we've established that you are grumpy. But 54 is certainly not ancient by any stretch. A lot of us here have you beat in that department.
You'll have fun and learn a lot here. Welcome to the asylum.
Welcome, Rich aka the grumpy old middle-aged guy.

Welcome from Texas! You're going to love rock collecting. There are so many different things to enjoy about it. You can cut and polish the rocks, tumble them, make jewelry, art or just stick them in jars all over your house :-)
It's a lot of fun exploring and finding the different rocks in your area and learning about them. You'll be amazed what you find out there. I recently started back up rock tumbling and I'm your age.
It'll make you feel like a little kid again... all those Treasures out there to find.
