This was taken from a pile of gravel/sand from a local Portage County, WI quarry. Reminds me of pet wood I found in ND. The black areas are slightly magnetic, on top of gray crystal formations. Hardness of about 7. To me it has some pet wood characteristics and others that are not. Any suggestions appreciated. Pictured wet.

Rhyolite or Rhyolitic Tuff. Fairly common from central WI on north.

BTW Chert is a possibility as well, outdoor lighting and dry photos would help to confirm which.
