hi i have been tumbling a set of Tiger-Eyes and they just did 5 weeks of 30 graded, However they still feel a little rough but when you look at them they appear smooth. basically i need ya'll to tell me weather they are or are not ready for stage 2, do they need to be smooth as glass?

Stage 1 is for pits, crevices, rounding, etc.

There is no magic time - most importantly they need to be how *YOU* want them. If you want them smooth smooth it sounds like they need more time. Let them fully dry and see how they look and feel. Inspect for cracks and pits etc. Those will show up with polish. IMagine them wet looking with those flaws showing. If you are ok with that - move them on. IF not - tumble more!

Stage 1 they will have a sand blasted appearance, once they are nice and rounded and how you want them its time to move them on. Stage 2 will give you a finer frosted look, stage 3 will be even finer and starting to look like they will polish soon.

It could be mentioned. When the rocks are nearly pit free and well rounded, let the grit break down all the way... It can result in a very smooth rock.
