Has anyone here used it, and if so, how did it work for you? I used practically the whole container in my last run and still ended with chips and cracks in some stones.
Perhaps the load in the barrel wasn't enough? I thought 3/4 full would do the trick, but obviously something went wrong.
Has anyone ever experimented with "alternative" media types? Like "pony beads" or "perler beads" or anything of that nature?
Sorry guys I'm just such a curious and needy individual...

Perler beads should work fine. Some chop up plastic hangars, etc.

Ooooooooooooooo, i have LOTS of hangars I don't need any more LOL
So the media needs to be pretty small? Perler beads are tiny... so is the media I got from Dan & Darcy. goes right through my kitchen strainer I use to rinse everything... gonna have to get a wire one with tiny mesh LOL
Thanks knave!

Best advice I can give ya is to use large ceramic media from therockshed.com. Small doesn't last long

Thank you EricD!
The reason I'm asking about the pony and perler beads is that I have access to a LARGE quantity of them. Someone I know was crafting with them and isn't any more so she donated them to me, thinking they would be useful. So far they're just sitting around cluttering up my workshop LOL
But the ceramic media would undoubtedly be a better bet, thanks!!!

The commercially available plastic tumbling beads are small and round. Keep in mind with any plastic you keep it grit specific. Picture media as “tiny hands” helping to sand any inside curves. If your rocks are very well rounded, larger 3/8”+ media works perfectly.

Re: getting through the screen. I hear some folks, who use plastic, put the tumbler batch in deep water, and the plastic can be skimmed off the top.

Feel free to use the beads as media in the first (grinding/shaping) stage, I use anything I have around for smalls. Gravel, etc.

Awesome! Y'all are great!
Knave, I hadn't even thought of that! Wonderful! Thanks! Question, though, if I run a clean cycle, do they still need to be grit specific?
Rockpickerforever, the spacers? I've got some of those floating around here as well *LOL* Hubby was in construction, there's a lot of his stuff just sitting here that I don't know what to do with, so I can at least put those to use.
EricD, Thanks!

djsparkles good question. I’ll let someone who uses plastic answer that. Theoretically the plastic could get grit stuck in it, I must confess I was repeating what I’ve heard.
