Glad you noticed the ring structure. I have to believe that it is not random and there has to be a reason why a specific pattern is manifested in this one. As time goes by and I cut into hundreds of specimens I see subtle repeating patterns and structures that suggest cause and effect in these things.

Here's two that I cut and polished. Not sure where collected they were in a cat litter box with 6 or 7 others; IMG_4199 by Findrocks, on Flickr IMG_4200 by Findrocks, on Flickr Wow, I love those two guys. I notice the patterns in both seem to have similarities even though the colors are different. I also notice they seem to have different nuances than most of what I find from southern Utah so I'm really curious where they came from. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately the collection location info is lost. The old Rockhound/Lapidary I purchased them from has passed away. I believe he actually bought out a couple of older rockhounds material years before I met him. That multi-stop path to me really obscures the info on some of these rocks.

I've put down a similar pattern sometimes when I sit on the bowl.

Now here we have a non typical coprolite specimen that does not present the colors and patterns normally found in southern Utah coprolites. In fact when I first cut it I doubted what it was. I eventually concluded that it is genuine coprolite because of the many micro gastroliths of red Jasper mixed in it. In no other rocks I've found in the entire region is there found these distinctive red Jasper granules except these coprolites. I've concluded these red granules were a common part of what these critters were ingesting because I find so much of it within coprolite specimens.

I thought I'd show you a common bland specimen that will not find a place within my collection. It will be traded to a rock shop in southern Utah where a tourist will probably buy it as a novelty or souvenir.

Holy crap, RWA3006! What a great display, but I wouldn't want to be the one who had to dust all those!

1dave those are so cool. When I was a kid I was obsessed with the pterodactyl. My little boy imagination was enthralled with what I envisioned as sinister assassins in the sky. I was sure that nothing could be safe from the hideous omnipotent pterodactyl.

TURD TUESDAY One splash of color- that's odd. Yeah, it's not terribly beautiful so it'll probably end up as a tourist souvenir.

Randy, I see a fish swimming in polluted water. Did I pass the stinkblot test?
