The power of poop is impressive. Two years ago, I cut and polished one of Randy’s coprolites and sent it to my daughter’s science teacher at school. He has been an inspirational teacher for her and they had just finished a series of lessons on rocks and geology, so we wanted to do something special for him and nothing says thank you like a pile of fossilized poo.
Two years later, my son is lucky enough to be in his science class and, wouldn’t you know it, he brought out the coprolite in the very first science class to let all of the kids see and touch. Needless to say, the kids all loved it and hopefully at least one of them will be inspired to learn more.
We have given coprolites to all of our teacher friends and plan to give more to the middle school science teacher when my daughter moves up next year. It’s such an amazing thing for the kids to be able to see and touch and wonder about.
I’m pretty sure I’ve said it before but it’s well worth repeating. Thank you Randy for sharing these amazing coprolites with us and firing up the imaginations of so many!

Ditto on Brian's 'thanks for sharing' comments. Many of my few coprolites have been widely adopted!
It's almost Tuesday, so here's one that was a bit different, large calcite? filled void. Sorry, I've already given the other half away. Even non-rock enthusiasts can't resist a dino expellation. ( Colors might be a bit strange as it's been terribly smoky here from the fire nearby )

Rick, oregon what a glorious turd, and plenty worthy to be Turd Tuesday's specimen! I concur that it is calcite in the center because once in a while I come across one like that. I've noticed that when calcite is present it is often a large void that it filled and as near as I can tell the voids are usually created by dung beetles. That dark area around the perimeter of the calcite is almost always a common denominator with dung beetle activity. Thanks for sharing a great piece.

Here's a specimen with some calcite filling a cavity. It also has some layers of chalcedony that previously accumulated on the walls of the void. Notice the dark spot at 3 o'clock that indicates the poo left from a dung beetle.

Anyone notice the oddities at 3 o'clock and 10 o'clock?

The whole thing is an oddity. Separate sections, red blobs and chanels, rose quartz, so many fractures . . . from internal gas pressures?

That's a very nice one, Randy. I LIKE it!
The colors and patterns make me think of a cat. A tabby cat with white.

Yes, 1dave , but which one marks the spot? Which is better to have? A treasure map with just one X, or a bunch of them, and you have to figure out which is the correct one?

Better yet Jean, What was a Treasure to the dinosaur? At least it was a local Utah Dino . . . . . . the lakes have changed a lot over time . . .

The bottom photo of the pair reminds me of islands and continents drifting in an ocean. I especially notice the pie wedge shaped forms on the right side that seem to have once been connected much like the continents in Pangea.
And what's with that squiggly helical thing at four o'clock on the bottom photo?

And what's with that squiggly helical thing at four o'clock on the bottom photo? Tapeworm? I seem to recall that intestinal parasites have been documented in critters in or before the Jurassic and I believe the formation in question is not a random thing, but is the result of a specific cause. I suspect it's from either parasite or dung beetle, but that's about all I can believe at this point.
