It seems to be less common for sure, especially in this quantity.

Yellow is usually wet iron, limonite. red is dryer iron, hematite. black is very dry iron, goethite.

Hey RWA3006 just cut this one this morning. Is that a gastrolith?? I guess dinosaurs loved rocks too 🤪 What else stands about this one? Trying to learn more about these.

Hey RWA3006 just cut this one this morning. Is that a gastrolith?? I guess dinosaurs loved rocks too 🤪 What else stands about this one? Trying to learn more about these. It absolutely is a gastrolith and a good one too. This is a prime example of the dark red jasper pebbles that are so dominant in the variety of gizzard stones from this region. This one is a great specimen. Congratulations. Eta,. I can also tell it had a pelletized texture due to the distinct pellet forms inside and on the outer surface.

agatewhisperer Alex, that one is superb. I had no idea I sent you all my good ones! I'm not sure, but that circular structure reminds me of a bug tunnel. It's as if the center was too hard to tunnel through so the critter just cruised under the surface. It's hard to interpret these things.

Randy, what is the sparkly stuff in this one? I believe it's calcite crystals that formed in empty spaces between pellets. A little acid will etch it away.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting information in that article. From the number of articles referenced there, it appears paleo-crapology can be a career.

pretty amazing Dino Fossil found, one of the most intact, well preserved... That's amazing. I thought it was interesting that they found stomach contents of ferns and twigs where they could see the growth rings of the twigs.
